Mixposure

Hey Ya’ll -

Subject: New Music Uploaded at Mixposure.Com

I’ve been posting on the forums at SoundClick.Com about my frustrations in the lack of hits our websites receive from their visitors. Back when I posted our music on the old mp3.com, we’d get over 1,000 unique visitors a day to HighestPraise.Com and our other sites. W/ our music available at SoundClick, we got far less than 1,000 visitors for the whole year. WAY LESS.

Anyway - some folks suggested that I upload some music to a site I’d never heard of … called Mixposure … so that I’ve done.

I’d be grateful if you’d help get us “exposed” there by visiting Mixposure and playing the two songs I’ve just uploaded.

You’ll notice I uploaded “Restless” - one of the songs I’ve prepared for my new instrumental. As w/ Live365 and Soundclick, I uploaded this into the “New Age” genre intentionally - “gone fishing”. A lady emailed Highest Praise the other day and was concerned that we were supposed to be “Christians” but had our music in the “New Age” genre. I took the time to reply about our strategy - most “new age” stuff is centered around the spiritual, right? Lots of seekers there … and our music is … well … DEFINITEY SPIRITUAL. Didn’t Jesus say something about the “sick needing the doctor”. (dont’ get me wrong - I’m not implying that the folks who listen or compose the music in that genre or sick, lost, etc).

Oh well - back to the grind - I’m going back into the studio this afternoon at Passion Music & Film Group for some recording time on the Yamaha C6 conservatory grand - say a prayer for me to record something I can keep!

Luther

Hey ya’ll -

Well, I never saw a movie preview - never really even knew this movie was out - but watched it last night and was left in awe. I’m speaking of the movie “Luther”. (see www.lutherthemovie.com ) This is an epic on Martin Luther that was released on DVD and VHS somewhere around 11/30 from what I’ve been told. Some of the men at the prayer retreat I attended were talking about so we rented it at our local Blockbuster.

All I can say is that I think every Christian should watch this. What an incredible story. I’m saddened at the total ignorance I had regarding the history around Martin Luther. I knew he was the person who started the Reformation, but that was about it. I learned a lot - granted, I have no way of knowing how much of this movie was fiction and how much was fact … but the overall theme was incredible.

I was compelled by one scene in particular where one of the ministers was leaving a festive party prematurely. Martin Luther caught up to ask him why he was leaving - he’d just gotten his copy of the Bible in his own language … he as eager to get back to his people and share it. Martin Luther cautioned him that there was not yet any protection established for him and all he cared about was letting others share his experience of reading God’s Word for himself for the first time. Later, he was burned at the stake for it. Am I that desperate for the Word?

I’m so grateful for the pioneers, prophets, and people of God who have blazed trails before us. If I could share one tiny ounce of the passion, purpose, and boldness that these soldiers of the Kingdom had, I’d be doing good. Lord, help us all.

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Posted on January 21st, 2005 in Faith, General by Fred

Hey Ya’ll -

No sneak preview of music today … just a reminder … “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”.

From YahooNews/Reuturs:

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian security forces took up positions across northern Gaza on Friday with orders to curb militant attacks against Israel as part of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s plan to halt violence and revive peace talks.

OK, I must confess that I’m not nearly as educated as I should be on the Israel/Palestine issue. I know the bloodshed and fighting goes way back to the Old Testament. At the same time, I know that God wants Jerusalem to live up to it’s name … to be a city of peace.

I was praying and studying the Word of God this morning - there have been some financial issues occurring with us that I’m not happy with and since I believe that God’s will for us is to be prospered and blessed, I figured it was time to hunker down and try and get to the bottom of what might be causing some of this financial frustration. I began to review some of God’s promises to me about prosperity. [ok, no name it and claim it flames, please - I'm not freaking out, but I'm just believing God's Word and promises to me!]

One of the first things that I read was this reminder from Psalm 122:6. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you”. It seems nearly every translation uses the word “prosper” (which certainly is not limited to finance, but includes it). NIV uses the word “secure”.

Shall I pray for the peace of Jerusalem for no other reason than my desire to “prosper” and to check that off my “to-do” list to make sure I qualify? Certainly not. Do I fear that in spite of this, that may be more closely related to my true motive? Yes. Still, I choose to PRAY for the PEACE of Jerusalem today. And I pray that God would allow me to discern and learn his heart for the situation so that my prayers would be selfless and that my heart would truly be with His people in Israel.

I noticed yesterday that Vice President Cheney commented that Iran was at the top of the list of “trouble spots”. One thing he said was that he was concerned that Israel “might well decide to act first to eliminate any nuclear threat from Tehran.”. Israel has defended herself with preemptive strikes in this manner before. Still, imagine the conflict. God’s command to us is for sure - we need to pray for Israel. Pray for Jerusalem. May she be protected and may she be guided with wisdom and integrity. And may this apply to the physical, geographic Israel, but also to all of spiritual Israel, the chosen people of God, His children. Amen.

The Coronation

Posted on January 18th, 2005 in Music by Fred

Hey Ya’ll -

Well, I’m finally “back in the saddle”. Today feels like the first day of the New Year to me, as I’ve been all out of my “routine” since before the holidays. Last week was awesome - had an incredible time of prayer, fasting, and seeking the Lord at my annual retreat. God spoke (as usual) and it was a great time of renewal.

I was home for a few brief hours on Thursday morning and then headed out to Dublin, GA for rehearsals and preparation for our annual “Keyboard Praise” concert at Dublin First United Methodist. I was listed to do a piano solo and I decided it was about time to step out in faith and perform one of the pieces I’ve been preparing for the new album. I chose one of the most difficult ones - a majestic, regal-sounding theme that is in Db - a piece that I’ve struggled to find a good “title” for.

I had decided to call this song “Majesty” or “Majestic” - neither of those titles ever excited me, though. One of the anthems that we performed in the concert was subtitled “Diadem/Coronation”. Coronation - now that’s a word that I like. It described the “feel” of the theme I’d composed and after discussing it with Joy, we decided it was the perfect name!

One of my visions in performing this music is that the Holy Spirit will minister to people and reveal Himself to them as I play and worship. I anticipate this in both religious and secular venues. Sunday was the first public performance and my dream came true. An older gentleman - actually, one of the pastors on staff - came up to me at the reception following the concert and said something like this:

Fred, when you played that song, “The Coronation”, I had visions. The Spirit moved within me and I saw myself standing in that great, majestic hall before the King of Kings. I was overwhelmed and did not know whether I should shout “Hallelujah” or if I should just fall down”.

This really excited me - it’s exactly what I’d hoped for. The song was well received and I’m more encouraged to finish composing the other themes and get the album finished by late spring or early summer.

Well, back to work …

For the Kingdom,
Fred

Time to Go …

Hey Ya’ll -

Well, it’s just about that time … an event I look forward to every year … my annual retreat to Panama City, FL for some serious God-seeking.

It all started I guess 9-10 years ago … I’ve lost count. I’d been working as the Music Director at New Life Christian Fellowship in Vicksburg, MS with Pastor Craig Walker … he’d moved down to Mobile, AL and since we were all affiliated w/ Ken Sumrall, we started meeting in January each year at “The Secret Place”. This was a great house in Pensacola that Ken Sumrall built for ministers to come “retreat”. Craig started this gathering back then and I’d always join with a group of 10 or so men … for a dedicated time of prayer, fasting, worship … like I said .. some serious “God-seeking”.

The last few years the event has moved from Pensacola to Panama City Beach, FL. We stay at Laguna Christian Retreat and it’s an awesome time of worship and prayer time. God has spoken so clearly to me over the years as I take these 3 days to get “set apart” for Him and seek His direction for my life, ministry, and purpose. And of course, being out on the beach helps .. it’s usually pretty cold this time of year, but it’ll be in the 70’s this week. If you read an old post from way back in August of 2004 (the post is entitled Eureka - God’s Voice on the Water” and is in the archives …) … you know how I love to be around the water when I’m seeking the Lord … and not just water … in the woods, mountains … just something about the peaceful, beautiful outdoors and nature.

At any case, I’ll be leaving in the morning for Panama City Beach, FL. I have an extra privilege this year - I’m taking along my pastor this year. That will be a treat, as there is much to pray about concerning our local church and my involvement there. It was at this annual prayer/fasting retreat 3 years ago where the Lord clearly spoke to me regarding my time to resign my full-time position … amazing how things work.

I’ll be jumping right into the saddle - actually a bit early - we’ll have to leave the retreat an afternoon early because I want to come back home, see the family and check on things at HPP, only to leave Thursday afternoon for Dublin, GA to prepare for the annual “Keyboard Extravaganza” concert that I’ll be performing in at Dublin First United Methodist Church on Sunday evening, 1/16.

Thanks for those who read this - please cover me in your prayers as I set myself apart the next 3 days to seek the Father. I want to come back challenged and focused - and may His glory be evident in my life upon my return.

For the Kingdom,
Fred
