The Faith of a Child
Posted on April 6th, 2005 in Old-General by Fred McKinnonHey Ya’ll -
Long time no blog! I just had to share this story with you – how awesome it is!
Joy was taking the kids to the gym this morning and had pre-arranged to bring home one of the other kids, “Tristan”. Joy told them that Tristan was coming home with us and although excited, Jon Michael (our 4-year old, for those who don’t know) was more interested in having “Andre”, Tristan’s older brother, to come.
Joy explained to JM that Andre was in school and wouldn’t be able to come. Disappointed, Joy could hear him muttering a simple prayer in the back of the van … “Dear God, please let Andre come to our house and play”. A few minutes later, this 4-year old began to ponder things that I thought only us adults think …. shockingly, he proclaims to his Mom … “Mom, sometimes I pray and I don’t think God listens .. I don’t think he hears or answers”.
Well, Joy tried explaining that God always hears our prayers, but that sometimes, He (God) just knows better. But by her own confession, Joy was thinking to herself “yeah, sometimes I feel that way, too – how do I explain this to a 4-year old?”.
So, Joy arrives at the gym w/ the kids and Lisa (Andre and Tristan’s mom) is there – she sticks her head in the door and says “by the way … if it’s OK … can I send Andre with you, too”? There he was … a true, genuine, outright answer to prayer.
Lisa said she’d just decided a bit earlier that Andre would have lots of fun and she should let him just stay with us … the childlike faith of a prayer answered.
God is good, ain’t He?
For the Kingdom,
Fred
