Swimming, Ads, and Stakes
Posted on June 22nd, 2005 in Faith, Family, Old-General by Fred McKinnonSwimming …. Ads … and Stakes … what on earth?
Ha …
Swimming … we’ve put the two boys (Jon Michael and Will) in swimming lessons that last two weeks here on St. Simons Island. So, every Monday – Thursday Joy and I get a babysitter for Rebekah (our 1-year old princess) and haul the boys across the island for a 1/2 hour time of being in the pool working on our swimming skills. They’ve come quite a way in the last 1-1/2 weeks! I’m looking forward to it being OVER though tomorrow!
Ads … well, if you’re here, you probably noticed’em. I installed the code for Google’s AdSense program. The way it works is this … Google’s technology scans the content on the page and based on those keywords, it serves what is supposed to be “relevant ads”. Luckily, I can block ads if they start showing up … I’ve already blocked “Tithing is Unscriptural” … but it’s still showing up – it’s supposed to take a couple of hours to update itself … if you see trash showing up, let me know and I’ll add the URL to my ‘blocked ad’ list! If it gets ridiculous, I’ll just delete’em – it’s just an experiment!
Overall, it’s interesting to see that the overwhelming ads served are religious in nature – I guess that says something about the content I’m writing, huh. I started to delete the one about Christian S-E-X (afraid to put that word in this blog, thus who knows what ads would be served!), but realized … hey – that link appears to go to a ministry where there is resources on restoring that good ole’ gift in purity, the way it’s supposed to be, LOL! At any case, based on my experience w/ highestpraise.com, instrumentalworship.com, etc … people seem to be interested in the “relevant ads” because they click on them … and each click generates a few pennies for the Fred McKinnon trust fund (ha!) … so click away!
Stakes … more on this later … but suffice it to say that today, I’ve gotten tired of a bunch of junk that’s been bringing me down spiritually, emotionally, and physically, and I finally got the tenacity to rise up and “drive a stake into the ground” to stand in faith for some answers and break through on a few issues!
Well, that’s about it for now – time to get on the ole’ bathing suit and get ready for swimming 101!
For the Kingdom,
Fred
