Surgery for Will

Posted on July 6th, 2005 in Family by Fred McKinnon

Hey Ya’ll -

Our lil’ Will had surgery today … out came the tonsils and adnoids. He’s been having trouble with them for all of his 3 years now so it was good to finally get it taken care of. With all of the sinus, ear, and throat problems I’ve had all my life, I wish I would’ve gotten MINE removed when I was 3!

We were at the hospital (Southeast Georgia Regional) at 6:00 AM and to my pleasant surprise, we were on the way home around 9:30 AM! Will did great – he’s been pretty fussy all day, but that’s to be expected. Dr. Jack Borders was the ENT and he did a splendid job – we liked him a lot. The whole staff at the hospital was polite, expedient, and thorough.

It took him quite a while to settle down after coming out from the anethesia – he just didn’t feel good at all … go figure. Off and on, he’s been crying and the lucky fellow has spent most of the day in his mommie’s arms. (like I said, sign me up for that surgery!)

The highlight of the day was this afternoon – in a sobbing, crying voice he said something that sounded like “is the 4-wheeler charged up”? Ya see, Will got himself one of those way-cool battery-operated 4-wheelers for his May 21 birthday – it rides a whopping 5 mph (which is faster than you may think!). So we thought, “yeah … let’em try it”.

That boy rode all over the neighborhood with the biggest smile on his face – it was amazing. I suppose the ring pop, icees, ice cream, and all the other assorted goodies helped as well. Of course, all he really wanted today was “pizza”. And times have obviously changed, as the DR’s orders on release were “no physical or dietary restraints … let’em do whatever he feels like, let’em eat whatever he wants”. My – how times have changed.

Special thanks to my mom, our “Me-Ma” for coming over last night and keeping JM’er and Bekah all day for us.

Join us in prayer that Will’s recovery will go quickly and that the healing will be quick.

Blessings,
Fred
