Oh deer …

Posted on October 3rd, 2005 in Family, Old-General by Fred McKinnon

Hey Ya’ll -

Man – it’s been pouring down the rain here yesterday, through the night, and right now it’s pouring so hard I can hardly see out the window. Thought there must be another tropical system out there that I’d not heard of … but don’t see one – just lots of rain.

Well, in my last post I mentioned that fact that it was “fall”. A couple of things happened today (already, before 9:00 AM) that reminded me even more … thought I’d share them with you.

First, my darling young William (Will) Issac … he clothed himself in a fine array of fall apparel today, including his boots (which you can’t see in this pic):

Second, and I hesitated to mention it in my previous post because I know there are so many folks out there who “don’t like or approve of it” … but oh well … u gotta be who u gotta be … I’m a huge fan of hunting (and fishing, camping, outdoors, etc). Hunting season starts soon, and I’m past due for getting myself a nice, trophy buck … although I’d settle to just get some good venison back in my freezer.

Typically, I truck off to the “big woods” with my Dad … but this year, I think I may just perch on my front porch here on St. Simons Island … below is a picture of the tiny little Bradford Pear Tree planted in my front yard. A buck “marked” this tree last year, and he’s now returned in full force, rubbing the opposite side raw. Fresh shavings were on the ground this morning – take a look. If you aren’t into “hunting” … this is called a “rub” – the bucks bend over and scrape the bark off trees as a way to “mark their area” for mating, etc. Looks like the McKinnon’s Front Yard is the next loveshack for somebody! (oh deer … I mean dear!).

Have yourself a great week. Today has already started off with a bang – we attempted to upgrade two of our major servers for our hosting company last night, and the upgrades went south in a major way – some functions are still not working properly. In addition, we’ve been hit by hackers the last two nights, and are working diligently to find the vulnerabilities. On top of all that, there are some other work-related issues that need lots of grace and prayer. If you think about me – lift up that prayer!

Life goes on, eh – and it’s gonna be a great week – full of opportunity to advance God’s Kingdom. Hey – if you’re reading – I’d love to hear from ya – drop me a comment below.

For Him,
Fred

    Hi Fred,

Just wanted to drop a line and say that I’m reading your blog. Neat deer rub! All is well around here. I’m listening for his voice today. Feeling especially needy of Him today and that’s a good thing.

    Blessings,
    Christy
