March 24 - Great Day

Posted on March 24th, 2006 in Family, General by Fred

Hey Everyone -

March 24 … it’s a great day!

This day is special in a couple of regards. Well, it’s the birthday of Tim Wilbanks, my brother-in-law. “Happy Birthday, Tim”.

But 8 years ago, something happened on this day that completely caused Tim’s little sister, Joy, to forget all about his birthday.

8 years ago, in the prayer chapel at Epworth-By-The-Sea on Saint Simons Island, GA …. I proposed to Joy Wilbanks … asking her to be my bride and companion forever. And the crazy gal said “yes”.

Tonight we’ll celebrate that evening of March 24, 1998. Got plans for a baby-sitter, movie, and dinner. But maybe we’ll remember to say “Happy Birthday” to Tim this year, instead of “I’m getting married”.

Hooray!

Hey Ya’ll -

Joy’s parents (Nanna and Grandad) were here last week and “Nanna” took some pics of the kids and emailed them to me. I decided to upload them to “flickr” because of the cool tools they have for sharing photos. Below is a link to take a look - enjoy!

Blessings,
Fred

M&M’s are Bad, Bad, Bad

Posted on March 7th, 2006 in Family, General by Fred

Hey Ya’ll -

Did that title catch your attention? Well, I’m not talking about our favorite chocolate candy.
M&M= “mold & mildew”

For the last month I’ve been having trouble sleeping - snoring really badly (worse than normal). Bad enough where Joy and I had to start swapping out sleeping in the guest room. No matter what I did, the congestion was terrible and the snoring was ridiculous.

Then, I started getting a nasty rash on my chest and neck. It burned like fire and itched all the time, keeping me up at night and causing a great deal of discomfort.

Finally, we started figuring this thing out - we have a massive mold & mildew problem in our master bathroom. Apparently, when we built our house two years ago, we all (ourselves, builder, plumber, tile person, etc) neglected to understand that our big, drop-in jacuzzi tub needed a “flange kit” on it if it were to be used as a shower. As a result, it was installed inproperly and water has been dripping around the sides of the tub for 2 years. The entire wall in between the master tub and linen closet is covered in mold and mildew, as is most of the wood underneath the tub. We took off the access panel to the tub and the odor of mildew was unbearable.

Now I understand the horrible rash and breathing problems. I’ve since talked to countless people who have experienced similar symptoms from exposure to mold spores.

If you remember reading in Leviticus - mildew/mold was one of the things that caused a house or article of clothing to be considered “unclean”. The priest was to isolate it for 7 days, and if the mildew spread, the house had to be destroyed. God really knows what He’s doing when He says something is “unclean” and “not good for us”, eh?

The builders are here this morning - the purging has begun. Just removing one panel has revealed the damage is substantial, and will require some major work. I’m just glad that the ‘cleansing’ has begun.

God bless,
Fred
