Press on “Restless”
Posted on April 4th, 2006 in Music, Old-General by Fred McKinnonHey Everyone -
I’ve got some exciting news to share regarding developments of the solo piano piece, “Restless” that I composed a while back. This was a special piece because it was composed in a completely “spontaneous” moment in the middle of the night (hence the name, “Restless”). As the story goes – I couldn’t sleep, I came up to my studio, and decided to open ProTools and start recording before I started playing. I played the opening motif and the rest of the piece just “came forth” as I played.
I’ve recently uploaded this piece on my “MySpace” page – so if you’d like to hear it, take a listen by going to MySpace. If you are a “MySpace” member, login and leave a comment and rate it if you don’t mind.
Here’s the exciting news:
1. “Restless” has been featured in a special DVD entitled “Faith in the Midst of the Storm”. It’s a tribute by the ECLA churches (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) to the horrific damage from Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast. This DVD displays photography of the storm damage and subsequent hope “after the storm” and my composition, “Restless” is featured as background music, along with a beautiful arrangement of “It is Well With My Soul” by my friend, David Nevue.
If you’d like to see the video, it’s online courtesy of the guy who produced it, John McCullough Blade at his site. [click here to watch the video]
2. The next exciting bit of news is … well, I think I’ll wait until tomorrow to share it! Let’s say that it involves the fulfillment of a lifetime dream, and it should be “realized” in a few weeks. And no, I’m not talking about the birth of my 4th child – although that will also be “realized” in a few weeks. I’m speaking specifically of the piece, “Restless” ….
Until then …
For the Kingdom,
Fred
