A quick Monday Morning “Quiet Time” share …

Posted on July 3rd, 2006 in Old-General by Fred McKinnon

Happy Monday morning everyone …

Ya know, sometimes when I read the Word, things just pop off the page. Lately, I’ve been rekindling some thoughts about being “passed by” … the quick response in religious settings is often “oh, brother Fred, God would never pass you by”. Obviously, in regard to salvation, I agree. But in a general sense, this typical religious response is so wrong.

And it’s not that He would pass us by just for the sake of doing it … He may need us to initiate contact with Him.

Take this passage I just read:

“Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”. So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go show yourselves to the priests”. And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God …”
(Luke 17:12-14, emphasis mine)

So – we see that they were afar off … they had to cry out for Jesus to even see them.

God is awesome – He’s everywhere. He knows all … and this “God” was in human form, Jesus. Yet, even though these ten lepers were in enormous physical, spiritual, and emotional need … and even though the Creator of the Universe was walking nearby … He didn’t notice them … they had to cry out.

I’m working on an entire teaching for this, but suffice it to say – far too many times, we as Christians sit back and “wait” for God to walk over to us and make everything OK. We sit around, apathetic, drumming our fingers on the table, all the while assuming He’s not shown up because “maybe it’s not His timing”.

Maybe you should start crying out to Him. Get His attention.

Ya know, the sad part of this story is the ratio of those who actually come back with a sense of gratitude. 1%. 1 out of 10 actually came back to say “Thanks”. So, in all of our “crying out” … when you DO receive … don’t forget to give thanks.

That’s all! Have a great 4th of July!

For the Kingdom,
Fred

    Hey Bro,

You are so right. I often think about the lame man at the pool of Bethesda. Jesus “passed by” EVERYONE just to get to the one who was healed.

And how about the blind man? When he cried out to Jesus, his “bretheren” tried to get him to shut up. What’s up with that?

I’m guilty. I must admit that I would much rather God come to me and make it all happen. I have been like so many other “lazy” christians. It’s too easy to be lazy and blame “timing” for things not working out.

We must “work out our salvation” for our salvation to work. Thanks for the reminder.

    Rob
