My girl is bad to da bone …

Posted on February 26th, 2007 in General by Fred

Hey ya’ll -

I’m a proud husband and bragging one today … Joy (my gorgeous wife) decided Saturday morning that she was going to signup at the last minute and run the Super Dolphin Race on St. Simons Island. They have a 10K, a 5K, and 1-mile “Fun Run”.

Joy used to run a good bit, but not since kids - she’s not raced or even run consistently in 6+ years - since our first was born. I know she loves it, though and I encouraged her to “go for it”.

As you can see below, she smoked’em. She did the 5K (3.1 miles, I think) in about 27:51 … 1st place in her age group (35-39). My sister-in-law, Zandy, got 3rd as well (tall, right).

As if that weren’t enough, she came home and slammed me in FoozBall, 10-1. Yikes. She can’t play piano, though! (grin)

Congrats, Baby! You are bad to da bone.

Misc Friday Ramblings

Posted on February 23rd, 2007 in General by Fred

Hey Everyone!

Kinda wiped out - tired today. Made the mistake of taking a “sudafed” type allergy pill the day before yesterday around 6:00 PM … duh, I know better. Sudafed knocks some out - I’m the opposite - it keeps me awake. So, I fell asleep around 9:30 PM and woke up a few hours later at midnight, and spend the entire night awake. Kinda cool - I wrote a new song that I hope to have online soon, composed a new piano theme, and ran a herd of deer out of my front yard at 3:00 AM. Nevertheless, I’m totally beat today .. so, a few ramblings to post:

1. Prayer: since last Saturday, I’ve been battling dizziness. Comes and goes - but I have to fight this fear that reminds me of a tumor in my left ear 4 years ago that caused this. I’m 100% sure it’s something to do with this allery/sinus congestion I’ve got right now. Gonna give it a few more days b4 making an appointment with the ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) Dr. Would appreciate your prayer.

2. Comment Spam: for those who run a blog, you know all about Comment Spam. Seems all the spam filter plugins for my Wordpress blog dont’ work anymore - I get as many as 5-10 comment spam emails every few minutes. I guess it’s time to roll up my sleeves and install the latest upgrade to Wordpress and search for new anti-spam measures. If I had $1 for every hour I’ve spent battling spam on the blogs and for my hosting customers, I’d be very rich today.

3. Speaking of upgrades - I’m excited … Chris Moncus, a great photographer and web designer, is beginning a total makeover of “FredMcKinnon.Com”. I’ve wanted it to be more than just a ‘blog site’ … wanted to have my itinerary, music, downloads, etc. So, he’s working up a design that will make it my official “Artist” page as a Worship Leader and Instrumental Artist.

4. Speaking of “Worship/Instrumental Artist” … tons of you have emailed and asked me how the “Momentum Awards” went from IndieHeanve.Com and if I won. Thanks for your concern and excitement. The votes are all in, but the winners won’t be announced until the Awards Ceremony on March 31. I’ve already got my flight and hotel booked in Nashville (Franklin), TN for the weekend. I’m not attending because I expect to win (that would be very cool, though) - but to attend the Summit they are having - a great conference with some awesome speakers on topics related to the music industry and being an independent artist, etc. So … stay tuned on that.

5. Remember my friend, Jace Vek - the composer who arranged the orchestration for “Restless”? (listen) Kudos to him - he wrote the film score to a documentary called “Prescription Suicide” and that film won “Best Documentary” at the International Family Film Festival in Hollywood, CA. Congrats to the filmmakers, and to my friend Jace.

6. David Nevue, another friend and awesome pianist is coming to GA in Sept. We’re talking about putting together a piano concert down here in the Golden Isles. Interested? Let me know!

That’s about it for now … have a great weekend!

Amazing Grace - Chris Tomlin Video Featured @ YahooMusic

Posted on February 20th, 2007 in General by Fred

Hey Ya’ll -

A great movie is coming out in a couple of weeks called “Amazing Grace” … it’s about the life of antislavery pioneer Wiliam Wilberforce …

From the team who brought you The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe comes a new film - Amazing Grace. The story of the famed hymn, its author John Newton (Albert Finney) and the powerful journey of William Wilberforce (Loan Gruffund–A&E’s Horatio Hornblower, Fantastic Four), the man who ended the Slave Trade in Britain–successfully combining his deep call to serve God and social justice.

Chris Tomlin (one of my favorite worship leaders and songwriters) recorded Amazing Grace and added some beautiful lyrics - his video for Amazing Grace is featured today on Yahoo Music:
