Happy Easter!
Posted on April 8th, 2007 in Church Life, Faith, Music, Old-General by Fred McKinnonHey Everyone -
Happy Easter! It’s 4:25 PM my time … and I just had a couple of the deepest hours of sleep in a LONG TIME. We had two wonderful services this morning at St. Simons Community Church … on location at Epworth By The Sea’s Strickland Auditorium. There were 800+ chairs in the room, and both the 9:00 and the 11:00 were pretty packed, so I’d guess around 1600-1700 worshiped with us today. The set list looked like this:
:10 til … “walk in music” for the Early Birds:
- My Reedemer Lives (the Fast Hillsong Version)
- Glory, Hallelujah (fast gospel/jazz)
* quick 3-minute skit from the Kid Jam crew about Jesus being Alive … (4 years and older were with us today, so they kids all enjoy the Kid Jam crew, and adults, too)
* Jesus Is Alive (with extended intro, as on old Ron Kenoly “God is Able” album)
* Yes Lord, I Believe
* For All You’ve Done
* You Are My King (Amazing Love)
* In Christ Alone (duet with Todd and Shannon, both of who have sung with me on the “Worship Under the Stars” event) .. we covered it like the Philips, Craig, and Dean version.
Sermon: Pastor David’s sermon was “spot on” as they’d say in AUS. The last two weeks has been a theme called “On Location”. Today we discussed being on location for the resurrection, and that He (Jesus) is always “on location” now because He has risen. Without doubt, the most powerful part to me was all the names of people that had been written down over the last couple of weeks – they’d all been attached to this huge, hidden cross. We then closed by singing the Passion Hymns (covered by NorthPoint) arrangement of “Jesus Paid it All” .. as we sang this great hymn, behind the band this huge cross was being slowly raised up from it’s hidden place on the floor … and as the cross was slowly erected, our camera guys zoomed in on it, revealing the names of people in the church.
This was awesome .. I saw quite a few eyes watering during this segment. I knew it was going to happen, and it still had a profound impact on me – seeing my name on that cross, as we exploded into the Bridge, singing:
“O Praise the One who paid my debt, who raised this life up from the dead”.
You just can’t sing that Bridge loud enough. It was incredible.
If you’ve not heard the Passion Hymns version of “Jesus Paid it All”, it’s well worth the $.99 it cost on iTunes! (get it here)
Communion:
I Know My Redeemer Lives (Kim Dixon, one of the greatest singers on the planet .. she’s the girl who sings the duet of “Restore My Heart” with me on “Worship Under the Stars”.
Closer: Shackles (funky, rockin’ out “take the shackles off my feet so I can dance”)
*****
Setup was from 8:00 AM yesterday until 3:00 PM, followed by rehearsal from 3-5:15. Arrival this morning was at 7:00 AM … got home around 1:30. So needless to say, that two hours of sleep I mentioned in the beginning of this post was NEEDED!
Now Lindsay, one of our great babysitters is coming over around 6:00 and Joy and I get to sneak out for a date tonight.
Sometime this week .. probably tomorrow, I have an important announcement to make as well. I don’t wanna make it – but I must, so stay tuned.
For the Kingdom,
Fred
