We Believe – Brian and Jenn Johnson

Posted on May 3rd, 2007 in Church Life, Music by Fred McKinnon

Hey Ya’ll,

Well my friends around here have been telling me about this record for a while now. I even heard the title song on SongDISCovery, I think. It wasn’t until this week that I made the connection – this “Brian Johnson” is the son of Bill Johnson, the pastor of Bethel in Redding, CA. I love Bill, I love Bethel, I love what they teach, and the spirit they have. That made this album more desirable.

Shannon, the Associate Worship Director of SSCC is leading worship this Sunday and he’s introducing “O Taste and See” as the walk-in song. As soon as I heard it I said “Man, what is that song!?”. When he told me, I thought “OK, that’s too many people talking about this album and these worship leaders”. Travis (the Tech Director) and I immediately opened iTunes in the sound booth and bought the CD.

I can’t review the entire album because I can’t get away from two songs.

We Believe Album cover, Brian and Jenn Johnson“O Taste and See” – a more pop, british-sounding, driving song of praise – I love it, and I’m already considering it for Worship Under the Stars.

“Where You Go, I’ll Go” – OK, this is the song that made me blog. OH MY! SWEEP ME AWAY. Unless your congregation is a bit more acclimated to a more prophetic, open worship style, this may be more applicable for your personal time of prayer and worship. I can’t turn this up loud enough. I can’t listen to it enough. This has a very strong “Don Potter” touch on it … I dunno if Brian and Jenn would agree, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve been influenced by Don, as I know he’s done a good bit of teaching in their school of worship at Bethel.

The beginning of the song is OK – interesting, unique … but it’s the explosion of spontaneous, open praise and worship that bursts forth later into this 10-minute track that leaves me lost in a place of an incredible captivity.

If you only have $.99 to spend – get “Where You Go, I’ll Go” … if you can shell out $1.98 – get the other song. $9.99 gets you the entire album on iTunes. (this link will open iTunes, assuming you have it installed, and will take you straight to this album in the music store)

Hope it stirs you the same way it moved me!

For the Kingdom,
Fred

Mack brought in “We Believe” to practice for Elevate. We never got around to playing it, but I wish we had. Good stuff.

    Ha!
I’m so glad to hear that it connected with you as deeply as it did me!
My personal favorites are “Greatly to be Praised” (that one can lift my spirits almost any day) and “Isn’t He Great?”, but the whole cd is incredible. I’m so sorry I wasn’t more on top of things and gotten you some sample earlier.
Now if I can only set aside a little time this weekend to give you a taste of Michael Bleecker and West Coast Revival!
Great blog – see you Sunday!

Good stuff for sure. I like the same songs you do. I got this from one of the producers they worked with on it. Bethel has some amazing things going on…well, so does Neighborhood. Redding rocks for Jesus!

Man, i downloaded one of Bethal’s sermons of the week and heard Where you go I’ll go for the first time. It was the music pastor Bill played on a slide show presentation to the congregation. IT BLEW ME AWAY!!! Now, in reality… in South-Africa it is impossible to get your hands on this album. I saw the album on Rhapsody music but they dont allow any extenal US customers and same can be said for iStore (kid you not)… so… If anyone can find it in their heart.. please can you send me a zipped mp3 of the song… please..(with honey on top)
