from Valdosta … Wet, Tired, and Grateful
Posted on June 2nd, 2007 in Family by Fred McKinnonHey Ya’ll,
I’m writing this from a hotel in Valdosta, GA … we took the kids and joined some other friends at Wild Adventures Theme Park yesterday in Valdosta, GA. Normally, a full day in the park has us all so wiped out and we just drive home (CORRECTION – I drive home, everyone else sleeps). We decided yesterday evening to go ahead and stay overnight at the hotel with our other family and friends.
Woke up this morning (or did we ever really fall asleep?) in our 2-Double Bed room … all 6 of us still here – Andrew (the 1-year old) still yelling anytime somebody goes to the bathroom or makes a peep … to look outside and see RAIN … lots of RAIN.
This area was so smoky yesterday you could smell it, see it, breathe it … we’ve crossed through the heart of the huge Georgia Wildfires … our trip here takes us right down Hwy 84 in South Georgia – through Waycross, near Folkston (Okeefenokee Swamp), etc.
So, it looks like Tropical Storm Barry is headed out of the Gulf and right in this direction. More rain, cooler temps, and wind. Looks like we won’t be hitting the park again today.
We desperately needed this rain … so for Tropical Storm Barry, I AM GRATEFUL.
