Worship Leadership and this Blog …
Posted on June 12th, 2007 in Worship Leadership by Fred McKinnonHey Everyone,
Last week I decided that I wanted to be very intentional on my blog in providing some solid leadership and teaching on various aspects of “worship ministry”. It’s my prayer and desire that some of what I’ve learned over the years will help others in their leadership and churches. As a result, I hope to consistently use this space for that purpose. (and of course, I’ve gotta still throw out some of “me” .. life, funnies, family, etc … or it wouldn’t be my space!)
You see, just over the last couple of weeks I’ve realized something. I started “blogging” as a mind dump … a refreshing way to journal and unload … whether or not ANYONE ever reads or subscribes … I started back when I was on a mission trip to Africa as one of my pastor friends, Robert Pooley, told me about blogging and encouraged me to do it. Thanks Robert .. obviously, I’m hooked. But God has been stirring a desire in me to use this space to teach and lead others … and to challenge myself.
Just this week, as a confirmation, there were three separate blogs that I read that challenged us to “be creative” and “consistent” in blogging and writing. I’ve had a desire to further equip and lead others in the area of worship … so I believe this is a great place to start. I don’t consider myself to be an expert by any means … but I’ve been honored to serve in worship leadership for more than 15 years. I reflected on the fact that I was honored as the “2007 Worship Artist of the Year” at the Christian Indie Alliance Momentum Awards earlier this year, and that recognition also encourages me to lead – not just musically, but in practice and teaching.
So, there are three main things that I hope to pursue in this space weekly:
1 – Worship Confessional (the video that summarizes our worship service and strategy)
2 – Worship Question Series: where I answer questions from YOU … readers, subscribers, friends, pastors
3 – Worship Leadership Series: where I “teach” or address various issues in Worship Leadership.
I’ve already got my first “Q&A” post in progress which should be addressed later today (or more likely, tomorrow) … feel free to post your own questions to be answered in a future post right here.
For the Kingdom,
Fred
