New Blog Design, Bells & Whistles
Posted on June 15th, 2007 in Old-General by Fred McKinnonHey Everyone -
I’ve been frustrated w/ the design of my blog – I was happy to get some pics up and make it look more like “my own”, but the width was narrow and there was only one sidebar to support all the extra “links, categories, archives, etc” that are important to blogs.
So … I found a cool new template in WordPress and had Chris tweak the header w/ a new photo … this blog layout has 3 columns – a center content area, and two sidebars so that all of the important stuff is easier to see.
Some great new features:
* Recent Comments widget – shows Recent Comments from my readers on various posts
* Popup Menu for Archives (instead of an ever-growing long bullet list)
* Easier Links and Blogroll management
* Google Reader Shared Posts
I’m especially excited about the “Shared Posts” widget. I’ve converted to Google Reader for my blogs … I wish I would’ve made that switch sooner. When I see a post on another blog or entry within Google Reader I can choose to “Share it” … and my most recent “Shared Entries” from other blogs are on my sidebar now! So … if you blog something great, I can share it!
Another exciting twist is that I’ve enabled “RSS” on our “TheWorshipCommunity.Com” site … so I can now subscribe (as can you) and/or share posts directly through Google Reader.
Google rocks – have you not figured that out yet?
Anyway – so … honestly .. what do you think of the new blog design? (still a work in progress, but getting there).
