Worship Confessional #3, June 17 2007

Posted on June 18th, 2007 in Worship Confessionals by Fred McKinnon

Hey Everyone,

This week’s Worship Confessional was a lot of fun – Pastor David Yarborough joined us and Shannon, the Associate Worship Director was the main leader … so he joined us as well (reluctantly, I might add).

Now, very important – Pastor David commented that “I don’t think anybody really reads this thing or watches” … PEOPLE, THAT IS A BIG CHALLENGE … SO YOU NEED TO LEAVE A COMMENT ON THIS BLOG and let him know!

Also, many have emailed/commented about David’s series on “Wired for Worship” … you can hear it on our podcast at:
Web: www.sscommunitychurch.com/podcast
iTunes: (click here for 1-click subscribe)

Now for the video:

Don’t forget to leave a comment!

Tell Pastor David we are watching!!! In River Falls, Wisconsin anyway — (where?? think St. Paul, Minnesota…and travel east about 20 minutes!)

I still need to figure out the technology stuff…get us up to date. I REALLY LOVE your confessionals.

    Thanks!!

  • Dixie Redmond

Hey, Fred – I’ve watched everyone of your worship confessionals. But I have to say I enjoyed the one with all three of you the best! I really loved seeing a pastor and worship leaders sharing about your service together. I think I mentioned this to you before – but I grew up partially in Jesup, Georgia – attended Hickory Street Church of God not far from you all. I’m going to go listen to the podcast now. Hope it’s still FREE ;-) Dixie (Sargent) Redmond

Nice one….it was nice to see the “togetherness” of you guys. I love the parts you can’t plan…like Fred’s texting :) Great set!

To the poster 2 comments above. I’m from Jesup too! Not originally, but I lived there from 94-06.

    Keep it up Fred!

    Hi Fred,

I’m listening-in from Pennsylvania. Heard all three confessionals and enjoyed em. I don’t think I’m starting to talk with a Southern accent yet–I surre hope not!

I also took the liberty of forwarding your confessional to our worship team. I wish our church did such a thing with our services. It’s great to share, and a blessing to many others.

    Thank you and God bless!
    Bob

Hey guys!! We are definitely watching. I live in NJ and am the leader of my church’s vocal music department. It’s been an excellent resource to hear how things are going for y’all. Keep ‘em comin!!

Tell Ps. David You have people watching on the other side of the world, well downunder anyway, blessings from the Central Coast, Australia where all the floods are at the moment, it’s wet out but the spirit is always looking to see what God can do and does with willing servants

Fred: Another awesome worship confessional!!! I’ve watched all of them, and really enjoy the perspective that is presented. It’s really refreshing to see your pastor a part of this. His heart of worship is obvious, and I am fully convinced that no matter how good the musicians, the song lists, etc. are, unless the entire leadership (beginning with the top on down) is “connected” with what’s going on in worship there will always be something lacking. We have a saying here at WOC: “As the leadership goes, so goes the church.” Looking forward to the next one!

I just feel personally offended by the mere existence of the middle fellow – he’s ugly, sings funny, and look rediculous on camera. ;-)

p.s. – I noticed at the end of this Worship Confessional it says that the Walk In song was “I am Free” – we swapped that for “Friend of God”…just stating that for accuracy sake.

Great job with these – they show a wonderfully authentic side to worship leadership. And it’s nice to see David getting an education in music! ;’)

Robin Green here (you may recall I senrt you a response to “Though I Can’t See You” a while back). I lead worship at Dripping Springs Pres in Austin and we’ve recently started encouraging the team bring in newly-minted original pieces to rotate into our services as a more spontaneous response to the message. My most recent contribution was written about 12 days ago (and included during the 6/10 service) in response to our pastor’s message on the healing of the paralytic by the Bethesda Pool from John 5. The piece is entitled “He Will Walk” and still needs some clean up.

You can hear the rough version we did during the sound check here: http://www.myspace.com/verdetian (this is a site I used to hold 3-4 tunes at a time, not really used for outward promotion).

    Would love you thoughts/comments/collaboration!

    In Christ,

    Robin

  • Pete Hanratty

Yes, we are watching in Columbus, Ohio!

Great job Fred, it really helps to know we’re not alone in our trials and triumphs in music.

  • Travis Jones

Fred – dude – why are you shouting?!!! ;-)

And it looks like you stopped highlighting your hair. Oh well, you’re still the coolest redneck I know!

  • Christine

I think this is so neat that you have these confessionals. I am watching from Gulfport, Mississippi!!

  • Christine

I think these confessionals are so cool! I have shared this website with my family and friends. We are watching from Gulfport, Mississippi

    Fred,
Tell David we pop in to see what you are up to and to stay up to date on the McKinnon household. I enjoyed the worship confessional, but don’t have time to listen to the podcast…and I doubt David could hold a candle to who preached at MY church. Betcha can’t guess who that was…some really incredible guy that you’ve heard once or twice in the past. :-)

I’m watching in Key Largo, Pastor David. I enly the ministry of Fred and appreciate his “confessions.” We’ve already adopted a few ideas for our own worship. Bless you!

    Hey Fred,
Thanks for the comments you posted on Jay’s confessional for FLC. This whole idea is new for me. I like the fact that I can hear thoughts and ideas centering around the service from other worship leaders. Thanks for the confessional and hope to see you soon.

    God bless,

    Andy

I found YOUR blog link in Brooke Sellers’ blog. She and I used to go to Norwich together many many MANY moons ago! Okay well….I’m gonna go ahead and stalk your blog now. Have a good one!
