Proverbs 21:23-24

Posted on July 9th, 2007 in Faith, Life and Family by Fred McKinnon

So this friend of mine, Mandy, had a blog the other day asking for everyone to post their “Personal Theme Songs”. It was a no-brainer for me … “My Stupid Mouth” by John Mayer.

It gets me in trouble plenty. I’m stubborn, like to get the last word, strong willed, and just can’t sleep until I’ve proven I’m right (which is 100% of the time, correct?). On top of that, I have a spiritual gift called “prophecy” … when used by the Spirit, it is a strong way of exhorting, teaching, proclaiming truth, and when combined with my second highest “spiritual gift” which is “discernment”, (according to multiple “spiritual gift” tests) I will see error and speak to it and challenge it.

In the flesh, on the other hand … meaning, in my natural ability, that gift is pretty ugly. It’s overbearing, strong, arrogant, selfish, and often harsh. I’m sad to say it seems to operate more from that “tree” than the other.

So, in my daily Bible Reading I came across Proverbs 21: 23-24 … and especially loved it in the New Living Translation … check it out:

“If you keep your mouth shut, you will stay out of trouble”.

Sheez … enough said, eh?
Nice … very nice.

    LOL!
I think this verse will be my mission for the day — good thing my day job is @ the library.

That whole mouth thing must be going around. Seems I’ve lost my “edit” button between my brain and my mouth lately. Guess I’ll be working on that one!

For many years now I have tried to live by the wisdom of God as recorded in Proverbs 17:28. Check it out!!! Have succeeded some, but failed often.

I think this is when the Baptist preacher would say “that’s either an ‘Amen’ or ‘Oh me’”.

For me… it’s a big “ouch”. Thanks for reminding me to shut up. :)
