America’s 50 Most Influential Churches

Posted on July 19th, 2007 in Church Life, Faith by Fred McKinnon

The list is about again this year @ ChurchReport.Com

Congrats to Tony and Perry on Newspring making it in there! Way to go guys, you rock!

Perhaps one of the most incredible things I noticed was this quote:

New to the top 10 churches are Granger Community Church (Granger, Ind.), Mars Hill Church (Seattle, Wash.) and Seacoast Church (Mt Pleasant, S.C.). All but Granger Community Church and The Potter’s House are multi-site churches.

Multi-Site churches are taking off … people are jumping on this .. don’t ask me how, why, etc … but it’s time to pull our heads out of the sand and see this truth – thousands … no, tens of thousands of lives are being impacted by churches who are strategically branching out into multiple venues and sites to reach more people. Details and specifics of “how you do it” aside (campus pastor, video teaching, etc) … it’s worth looking at it!

Time for lunch – maybe more later.

That’s really cool. And a reminder for me to soak up the blessings of being at NP while I’m still here. I really feel like the body that Christ has surrounded me with growing up (in SSI) and here in college in Atlanta have just spoiled me in Jesus Name!

Multi-site really is no different than the Methodist circuit riders. They had many campuses.

Anyway, how many on this list use pipe organs??

You know, I”d never thought of it like that! Great perspective!

    Hey Fred!!!

Well…Mars Hill Church in Seattle is the one I’ve been going to for over four years now…pretty cool church. I know what you mean about asking “how can a multi-site church work?” Well…it does…I can’t explain it, but the Holy Spirit knows what HE’s doing…and what HE’s doing is very powerful stuff at the moment. I remember when Mars Hill was just hitting 2,000 people…know we are close to 6,000 people. I also realize it should never be about “big numbers” but if those numbers are getting a true representation of Jesus Christ and are coming to HIM for the first time or maybe recommitting themselves, then praise Jesus for that.

The funny thing is…even though I go to Mars Hill, my favorite church is in Highland Village, TX called “The Village” pastored by Matt Chandler. I CAN’T ENCOURAGE ANYONE ENOUGH…BUT GO TO THEIR SITE AND LISTEN TO A SERMON DONE BY MATT!!! My first sermon I ever heard of his you can listen to here (http://theresurgence.com/r_r_2006_session_nine_audio_chandler). I think once you hear this…you will be a huge fan of Jesus Christ.

Thanks again Fred for what you do…and when is your next “just you on the piano CD” coming out??? :-)

    Blessings and peace everyone!

    Hey Ryan!

Great to hear from you, man! I’m glad you’re still lurking and haven’t given up on my piano work. Pray for me to find the time and discipline to do it .. I’m no where close, really .. but in the right moment, I could get it done quickly, perhaps!
