Japanese Godzilla Worship Confessional?
Posted on August 8th, 2007 in Technology, Worship Confessionals by Fred McKinnonHey Ya’ll -
For those who came to watch the “Worship Confessional” today and had all the audio sync problems … I finally gave up on GoogleVideo. YouTube video wasn’t an option as they don’t allow anything more than 10 minutes.
So, I’ve embedded the QuickTime movie instead. This resolution and quality is much better, but if you have a slower connection, you may need to wait a while for the download status bar (the little bar in the bottom of the video screen) to load a bit before attempting to play.
So, just go back to the original post to watch the new, revised, “in-sync” video! (no, not a boy band).
For you tech folks … any suggestions?
Here’s the deal …
In iMovie … you can copy/paste a graphic into the video. By default, importing a still image (like a .jpeg) puts the image into the clip viewer with “2″ frames. So, just dragging it into the timeline makes it appear for a split second. With the “Advanced > Paste at Playhead” feature however, you can paste the image over a designated amount of video. iMovie then extracts the audio from that segment of video, moves it down to a new track, pastes the still image, and everything works great.
This is where GoogleVideo is messing things up. Even though the iMovie file, the .dv file, and the .mov file that I export from iMovie plays perfectly … (if you’re familiar w/ the video … it’s when I say “fam jam” … it cuts to a wicked-cool image of the Fam Jam graphic for about 10 seconds while our audio continues .. then it reverts back to the video and everything is “in sync”. Well, all that works fine on the source files, but something happens during GoogleVideo upload and processing. That amount of “time” that I’d allocated to those still images reverts back to the 2 frames … causing the still image to show up for a brief second, and then going right back to video … but the extracted is still running and the video is not bumped off.
To see for yourself, checkout the Quicktime movie (this is the actual source movie that I’ve been uploading to Google), and compare to the GoogleVideo.
I’ve posted “help” topics on both the Google Support and Apple iMovie support discussion boards. We’ll see what we come up with. Ever seen this problem or heard of it?
