Marriage Tag (thanks Mandy)
Posted on August 12th, 2007 in Life and Family by Fred McKinnonHey Ya’ll -
Just home from our awesome “anniversary getaway” … had a great day at church, an incredible nap, and now we’ll enjoy some family time, “cereal night” (I just looked and there are TWO, count-em TWO boxes of Cocoa Pebbles) and get ready for a big week.
I don’t always respond to blog “tags” … when someone answers or asks questions and then “tags” other bloggers to do the same. I like BEING TAGGED … but I just don’t always have time to RESPOND to TAGS.
I’ve once again been tagged by my friend Mandy. This time it was a great subject, and one that is fitting in that Joy and I celebrate NINE YEARS of marriage this Wednesday, August 15. (thanks to all those who pointed out my error a few posts back when I mixed up JM’s birthday and our anniversary!). It’s on marriage!
“8 Things About My Marriage”
1. It may have never happened, had I not interceded in serious “spiritual warfare” for the life of my wife, Joy … before we even lived in the same town. (that story is here on my blog)
2. Only a few hours before driving to meet my Dad to pickup Joy’s diamond engagement ring, she and I were hanging out at the Beach Club, sitting in the hot tub … and we were talking about the possibility of marriage, and she thought “maybe we should wait awhile”.
3. I don’t deserve her. Period. No way around it. I simply don’t deserve her.
4. We established before we were engaged that we’d like to have 4 kids. Joy is the youngest of 4 siblings – 3 boys and a girl. I’m the youngest of 4 siblings – 3 boys and a girl. We now have 4 kids … 3 boys and a girl.
5. I popped the question only an hour or two after I’d gotten my hands on that rock. It was burning a hole in my pocket. (empty pockets after paying for it, I might add). We went on a date and then took a stroll through Epworth By The Sea. I suggested we walk into the little prayer chapel. We prayed some together there, talked, and that’s where I took one knee and asked her to be my wife. She was shocked, surprised, and more importantly, she said “Yes”. It was her brother’s birthday (Tim) and we made all our calls that night and when we talked to Tim, we forgot to say “Happy Birthday”.
6. She deserves better. I’m glad she said “yes” forever.
7. We find that our marriage is much better when we pray together. Although we miss it from time to time, we do our very best to spend at least 15-30 minutes together in the early AM before the kids wake up. When we do this on a consistent basis, little petty things don’t matter. When we get off track, we fight … and we sometimes yell, and I’ve thrown things. !!!
8. We both have “physical touch” as one of our strongest love languages. We’re accused of being too touchy/feely sometimes. We love it when there are no seats left @ church so we have to sit downstairs in the overflow lobby on the couch. We practically sit in one spot. I can’t hold her closely enough.
9. I know this tag only calls for 8 … but for #9 … did I mention that I don’t deserve her?
I love you, baby.

We just spent all day lying around, watching TV in bed, & reading together…that’s quite the way to enjoy each other’s company. We love days like this!

Gosh! I never get tagged!
I love that Amanda is so interested in ministry, is very much a student of the Bible, and is constantly in other books seeking out how to better share Christ’s love and live a life of love back to God.
