To move or not to move … Rated T for “Tech”
Posted on August 14th, 2007 in Technology by Fred McKinnonHey Everyone -
I’m trying to decide if I should move my blog to the root directory or not.
I’ve been reading a lot about SEO optimization, etc. and they all tend to suggest that it’s best to put your blog in the root directory.
If I were starting over, that’s exactly what I’d do. But for now, my blog is installed in a subdirectory /myblog.
Moving it to the root folder would/could break a lot of incoming links, heard my ranking, etc .. but I wonder if I should cut my losses and go ahead and make the move now, and hope it pays off later.
Any advice or anyone made this leap before? If I should go ahead and made the move, any suggestions on how to do it cleanly and try to minimize broken incoming links to the old “myblog/” location?
I also wonder if it’s best to stop posting in multiple locations (ie. MySpace) and just post in one location only. My technorati score is all over the place – with completely different responses for “fredmckinnon.com” versus “fredmckinnon.com/myblog“.
Any of your blog/tech folks got some good input?
Fred

Ha ha. Good job Billy. Good roundup for us.
I’m tempted to post all of my future blogs on a Jumbotron at Times Square. I figure millions of people will be able to see it, but it might be hard for them to reply. I’ve got to put together a budget. It might be expensive, methinks.
Out of my league!
