Share from my Vault, plus Demographic Update

Posted on August 15th, 2007 in Old-General by Fred McKinnon

Hey Ya’ll -

I’d like to share some great content that I’ve found across my blogroll (my vault!) over the last couple of days. For those who maybe haven’t noticed it yet, I often “share” my favorite posts from GoogleReader … those links are at the bottom right of my blog. GoogleReader also provides this link where my constantly-changing “shared articles” are kept.

  • First up, a great article on Worship Leading by Shawn Lovejoy. (thanks to Robert Pooley for this info)
  • An interesting read on how people want “content” online these days at ChurchMarketingSucks.Com
  • When a mega-blogger like Tony Morgan posts his “Top 25 Blogs” .. take notes.
  • Alex @ BetterThanBlank posts about singing lessons, and how he feels naked … it reminds me of Dr. McLean days of GSU.
  • Mandy is asking for input on “chick worship leaders” at BlendingWorship
  • Jordan @ WorshipTrench is discussing the “leadership star” – a must read!

Also, an “in progress” update on my appeal for you to take my “survey” … the survey will stay open for a while, but with a few hundred responses already, the overall % has stayed consistent throughout the day.

Without getting into all the details, it’s very clear thus far that you folks are:

  • 60% male, 40% female,
  • in the 45-54 age demographic (that surprised me, granted it’s not just the readers of this blog responding!),
  • in the $50-75K salary range,
  • college graduates,
  • 82%+ are married with kids,
  • 40% are on church staff … including about 50% in worship leadership,
  • we’re pretty overwhelmingly “non-denominational”,
  • we’re almost split right down the middle 50/50 on “contemporary” music and “blended music”,
  • more than 50% do NOT publish a blog, podcast
  • more than 50% do NOT subscribe to blogs (again, this survey is being pitched in a couple of other locations)
  • we spend A LOT of time online … 28% with 30+ hours/week, 22% at 22-29 hours/week, and 23% at 11-19 hours/week
  • and a whopping 80% of us either make an online purchase at least once per month or 4-11 times per year!

So … checkout the links, and let me know what you think about this data!

G’night,
Fred

I’d be interested to see individual stats from JUST the Worship Community Forums. From listening in on posts I’d guess the average age there to be a lot less. What’s your impression?

  2. alex says:

    Thanks for the link buddy!

  3. mandy says:

    big thanks from blendingworship!

  4. Russ says:

I would think the average age of those of us at TWC to be somewhere in the 30s maybe?

  5. Billy Chia says:

Average age was surprising but encouraging. I’m 28 but I’m all about age diversity. Our culture worships youth and it’s dumb.
