Move over Oswald Chambers .. it’s Living h20
Posted on September 10th, 2007 in Faith by Fred McKinnonHey Everyone -
I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite people on the Planet. His name is Craig Walker. He’s a super-blessed entrepreneur in real estate but more importantly, he’s a “General” in God’s army.
Craig has just entered into the blogging world. His blog is setup like a daily devotional … so if you ever read Oswald Chambers (My Utmost for His Highest, Streams in the Desert, etc), this is a “watering hole” you’ll want to visit daily. Craig basically shares a nugget from his personal quiet time or his journal each day. Check out Craig’s “Living H20″ site here and subscribe!
I could say so much about Craig. He was the pastor where I first served in full-time ministry. He had no clue who I was, but knew some mutual friends in Georgia. He called and said “I need a worship leader for my church here in Vicksburg, MS … but I don’t want a limp wristed, feminine piano player boy .. I want a man who can skin a buck and run a trot line”. (for those of you who aren’t Hank Williams fans, that’s a famous lyric from “A Country Boy Can Survive”). My friends said “I know just the guy, but I don’t know if he’d be willing to move to Mississippi” … so, the contact was made, Craig cast the vision (remember all those souls in Vicksburg, Craig?)… I visited, led worship petrified (I’d never led an adult congregation before, and had seldom sung out loud in front of anyone) … I met Craig and we hit it off, so I left Statesboro, GA as a new graduate from college and jumped in as the Worship Director at New Life Chrisitan Fellowship.
Craig had a strict policy for his staff – we spent TWO HOURS (8-10) every day of the office week in prayer and worship together. We’d go in his study, turn up the boom box, and worship and pray. When you spend time with someone in that environment, you grow close.
I’m extremely blessed to have an incredible FATHER in the natural – My Dad is also a General and Champion in the Lord and has been a guiding light in my walk with Christ. Craig is also like a “Dad” to me in the Spirit … a “father” in the faith. He’s the one who STARTED the fasting/prayer time that I go to every year in Jan for more than a dozen years now.
Craig is the one in the infamous story about how I prayed for Joy the day she was diagnosed with leukemia .. he was that “pastor” that called me in the middle of the night – to pray. (read that story here).
OK, so I hope I’ve given enough props and kudos to Mr. Craig Walker to inspire you to click over to his blog and subscribe to his daily “living water” devotionals. Leave a comment for Craig to encourage him that you are there, and tell’em I sent ya!
This blog will DEFINITELY be a part of my daily routine.
For the Kingdom,
Fred
