From the Word: Romans 4
Posted on September 12th, 2007 in Faith, From the Word by Fred McKinnon“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He [God] had promised He [God] was also able to perform.” (Romans 4: 20-21)
This is the passage that we read today in our family “breakfast devotion” time. I love this passage because it reminds us that God is the God of the impossible. What seems impossible to US is possible THROUGH GOD … IF we believe.
BELIEVE … I’ve been seeing and hearing that word often. It’s resounding throughout the Kingdom – on blogs, in testimonies, in devotions … I keep seeing it come up. Maybe it’s always been there, but I’m just noticing it more.
Unbelief is sinful. It’s an enemy of faith and will destroy your dreams, along with negative thoughts, doubt, and double-mindedness. It’s so natural, though. I find myself being a skeptic more than I should. But how many dreams are NOT being fulfilled because of our unbelief.
Do you have dreams that you’ve let slip away … dreams that you believe are God-spoken; yet seem impossible? Has the circumstances of life robbed you of the faith to believe? I know that I’ve certainly let this happen – and I’m asking God to rekindle the flame of those God-ordained dreams that He’s birthed in me over the years that I’ve filed away in a “never gonna happen” box – because of lack of faith, lack of tenacity, and unbelief. (lack of faith and unbelief go hand in hand).
How about you … what dream do you want to share? Rekindle your belief, and allow yourself to be “fully convinced” that what God promises, He can and will perform!
Let’s talk about it.
Fred

Something to think about, for sure. I’ve had many dreams in my life, but have labeled many of them “pipe dreams”. I really want to help men see “manhood” correctly, and help new christians learn how to see what the new creature really looks like.
Excellent post, son. However, the scripture you’re quoting is Romans 4:20,21 instead of Ephesians. The good news is that our God and Father really desires for us to bring back up those dreams and visions, put them on the front burner, stir them up by the Holy Spirit, and begin to ask, seek and knock as to His perspective on our dreams and visions – His “way” to bring them about. That’s what I’m involved in now concerning the dark spiritual atmosphere that covers our area. The more I ask, seek and knock, the more He puts on the “table” He has said He prepares for me “in the (very) presence of my enemies. Praise God!!!!

Eeek – you are right! I’ve edited it!
Thks!

Mine is very personal – the desire for children. I know God did not plant this intense desire in me with no plans to fulfill it. It may take doctors and medical procedures that are intense and complicated, but I BELIEVE that He will make it happen! I do believe, Lord, forgive my unbelief.
Wow. This was thought-provoking and tough for me. I’m a young guy, but if I’m honest, there are dreams that I have and had that have been way too easy to let slip away.
I’m with Brooke: I believe, Lord, forgive my unbelief.
