Haha – I like how your camera was already running when you opened the door and came in to the office! :)

  2. Just came into this for the first time. Really enjoyed it…I’m a worship leader “in my own mind”…and in my own home. Teach piano and with students from church get to kind of “cheat” and stick in some of my songs and also worship music. Get to sing and “in my own mind” lead the music, singing (my own!) and I also direct the instruments (band, orchestra) that’s of course “in my own mind”. Listened to you talk about a rough rehearsal…been there before (physically, for real!). That was new to me at the time playing with a band and how frustrating it could be. Oh, I was hopeless without the drummer. Couldn’t play when I couldn’t hear myself in the moniter…felt like a Prima Donna if I complained. But you just really can’t play when you can’t hear yourself don’t you know.

Worst experience I guess was when I probably… this is a “confessional” I believe you said. Okay. I did act like a Prima Donna I suppose. It got really ugly. I was totally out of line I’m sure. But I was so disturbed by the fact that the leader didn’t prepare ahead of time. Music (chord charts) were pulled out of the notebook five minutes or less before the service started. I just was so self-righteous. Got to the point to where I was so upset by the fact that the leader hadn’t chosen the songs either prayerfully, or at least with some thought. I eventually left the group after getting to the point to where I would worship all the way to the church and end up literally “shaking” when I sat down at the keyboard and watched everyone laugh and talk and then pull those “last minute” songs out. Also anyone who walked up and asked to sing in the group could…including when we were supposed to be preparing for a concert and also before our ministry trip to the Philippines. I tried to find “backup” on the “net” for my way of thinking. But instead, most of the worship leaders talked about the “worship” being more important than who was in the group or whether they could sing. Well of course the worship is the most important. I just felt like you should prepare and offer God your absolute best.

Uh-oh! Attitude check. I kind of got the “slap” I guess i needed from the Lord. I had to admit to myself that I had become contentious…oh, yeah! God gave me a “word” a few different ways. But as in one of my songs…”but with my ‘correction’, my Lord gave me ‘direction’. I am now “leading” in my own mind. But I know the Lord is “holding me up”, He’s “building me up”, He’s guiding me, He’s leading me to stronger and stronger ways in Him. I know He has a work for me and although it’s hard I try to remember now not to jump into the first “good work” that comes along. I need to prayerfully consider what God has for me and let him lead me to not only a “good work” but to the place that He has prepared and chosen for me.

    Wow. Props for O’Jays.
I’ve put a link to your blog on criesoftheheart.com. Care to reciprocate? ;)

  4. Billy Chia says:

Nice confessional man. I think this was on of you best. The whole “Tuesday rehearsals was rough” was like a hook, it made me want to see the rest to hear how the story turned out.

  5. Fred says:

    Billy,
Thanks -yeah, that’s the beauty of a confessional … you can “confess” the bad stuff, too.

  6. FreedbyJC says:

    AWESOME SONGs…
The sheets and chord charts for My Savior Lives are also on SongDiscovery #60 … we’ll be adding it to our TIER ONE set list.

  7. Ben says:

Thanks for the shout-out. Good call on the practice thing. Never too late to call a second practice!

  8. Fred says:

    Chris:
    Hey -

hahaha .. yeah, I did that on purpose .. turned it on, went outside, closed the door, opened the door, sat down, and edited out the beginning … I’m glad somebody noticed!
