Happily Ever After?

Posted on October 9th, 2007 in Church Life, Faith by Fred McKinnon

Hey Ya’ll,

Hope you’re off to a great week. We’re still battling various forms of stomach bug, fever, and discomfort at our home. Please keep praying for us.

I didn’t lead worship this past Sunday, so rather than do a video worship confessional, I’m yielding to Shannon’s “TextFessional” as he was the designated Worship Leader for all 3 services. I worshiped with them in the 8:00 and then floated over to Kid Jam and Rush Hour.

Pastor David kicked off a brand new, 8-week series called “Happily Ever After”. I’m honored to be one of the handful of folks on the team that meets every Monday to discuss upcoming services and series. I’ve got to confess, as David was sharing about this series a few weeks ago, I was trying to be positive but really wasn’t “getting it” – he was super excited about it, and was throwing out all these “types” and “shadows” from Deuteronomy … but I trusted it would be good. Well, after hearing the 8:00 sermon and seeing the outline for the next 7 weeks, I’m just as excited about the series, “Happily Ever After”.

Here’s the setup:

Once upon a time, God delivered the nation of Israel from slavery and offered them a land of their own, a land of promise. And yet they wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses speaks to the Israelites preparing them to finally cross over into the Promised land of Canaan. He reminds them they were slaves in Egypt, speaks to their their wanderings in the wilderness, and proclaims what will be necessary if they to enter and remain in the place of promise. Does the story end happily ever after? Are we promised a “Happily Ever After” ending today? Join us as we remember this story from “Once Upon a Time” and learn the modern lessons of Egypt, the Wilderness, and Canaan.

I’d love for you to follow along with us on this series … Week 2 is this coming week, sub-titled “So You Wanna Go Back to Egypt”? It’s gonna be a blaster, too. You can listen to the sermons by subscribing to our podcast in iTunes or listening on the web.

Kudos again to our incredible creative/tech team. Travis and Chris worked up some clever art/design for the series as you can see here. Read more about the concept of how they are helping people engage in worship and the Word more through graphics and media on Chris’ blog here.

I’d tell you to check out Pastor David’s blog, but it’s not really setup yet – although we hope to get him on board soon. In the meantime, you can read his weekly newspaper column, “What’s the Word” on the church site.

Hey Fred, we missed you at Southern Pride alumni day. Not sure if you got the memo. A bunch of the old folks were back at GSU and got to sit in with the band. It was weird, but fun.

Hopefully I can post up some pics of some of the old folks later this week.
