Tuesday Rehearsal
Posted on October 9th, 2007 in Church Life, Music by Fred McKinnonHey Ya’ll,
Quick post before tonight’s rehearsal. Here’s what we’re rehearsing tonight for this coming Sunday, 10/14:
Walk In: O Praise Him (A – David Crowder)
Note: we’ve done this several times, with the exception of maybe a couple of new singers, shouldn’t have to spend much time here.
Song #1: No Other Name (G – Todd Fields, NorthPoint Live arr)
Note: Love this song, never had the privilege of leading it. They’ve done this song at SSCC in the past, so I’m not sure what their arrangement sound like prior to my arrival in March. Will be interesting to see. My intention is to “cover” the North Point Live arrangement as closely as possible.
Song #2: Glorious (D – Tomlin)
Note: Todd Hendrix is singing with me this week – he’s a regular. He brought down the house with “You Raise Me Up” from Worship Under the Stars a few years ago. Word has it that Todd does a great job leading this song. It’s kinda high for me in D – but if you drop it lower, the Verse is too low. I’ll pretty much learn and flow with the band’s arrangement of this song tonight. Hasn’t been done very much in a while, and several people (yeah, Travis, I’m talking about YOU) keep asking for it.
Song #3: Rain Down (Em/G – Crowder)
Note: I did this in 2006 Worship Under the Stars – way before it was released on Crowder’s new “Remedy” CD. I do this with a more acoustic groove, not near as progressive or electronic as either of the Crowder recordings.
Song #4: Consuming Fire (Em/G – Tim Hughes)
Note: this is an awesome medley. I like to end “Rain Down” acapella, nice tight harmonies bouncing off the back walls … with an intentionally awkward moment of silence after the last “Holy is the Lord” … about 5 seconds of silence, and seque directly into an intimate V1 … “there must be more than this …”.
I THINK this two-song set will be a powerful time to engage in heartfelt worship.
Closer: after much prayer and discussion, I opted for the song “Rescue” by the Desperation Band for the closer. Maybe it doesn’t completely sum up the “don’t go back to Egypt and bondage” sermon, but it’s close. Basically, crying out to Jesus that we need Him to come to our rescue – where else can I go? (Egypt? No!).
We’ve never done this song before, and I’ve never led it before, but I think our people will catch it quickly – it’s been overplayed on CCM radio here for years and is quite simple.
And that’s a wrap. What songs are you planning this week?
For the Kingdom,
Fred
