Music from my Niece, Madeline, Pt 2

Posted on November 29th, 2007 in Family, Music by Fred McKinnon

Hey Everyone -

Thanks for the great response regarding the song I posted by my niece. I’ve not yet heard from her, but I hope she’s surfed over and seen your encouraging comments. With all those “I’d buy the CD” comments, I need to get Miss Madeline down here for a few weeks and produce a full album!

Here’s Part 2 … a song called “I Had A Dream”. Madeline shows up with this little mandolin-looking guitar … she called it a “tenor guitar” … I think her grandfather gave it to her. It only had 3 strings. It’s supposed to have 4. She’s never had 4 strings on it … so she just learned to play it with 3. Go figure.

Once again, this is a simple guitar/vocal demo. The lyrics astound me. My favorite line … “it wasn’t a dream at all“.

  4. Chuck says:

Dude, this song is better than the first you offered us yesterday. Man! Love her voice & writing style! Beautiful!

  5. Daddy says:

She really has a gift! I know you will encourage her and help her get the exposure she deserves.

  6. ken mullis says:

I think you need to give your niece a lot of attention because she’s got the ‘it’ factor going. I love the style and the vocals are awesome. I can’t think of a better artist in our circles for you to be helping to develop.

  7. Robert McKinnon says:

Fred, I can’t believe this girl! Like Chuck said – it’s even better than the one yesterday. I’m sitting here at work and I’m crying – unashamed. Anointing like I’ve not heard in a while. I’m talking about the SAME kind of anointing that I’m used to feeling from Don Potter. I’m serious! She takes me on a journey when she sings. The tone of her voice and her unique style of singing and writing are so refreshing.

Ken, you’re right. The “it” factor going on. It’s full of humility and yet really “in your face”.

Madeline, if you are reading these things please keep on doing what you’re doing. I expect great and mighty things to come from you.

Oh, and whatever you do. Don’t worry about that 4th string on your guitar. You’re doing just fine with 3.

  8. mandy says:

    iLike……….

her voice is so warm…. and i LOVE the sound of that guitar. i gotta get one of those!

  9. Russ says:

Her voice is reminiscent of Ben Pasley (of Enter the Worship Circle, 100 Portraits)…

    Great songwriting.

  10. Ben Harrell says:

I like this one even better. She’s so different! I love it. I’d like to hear her lead worship.

  11. klampert says:

nice man…sounds like a cross between brooke fraser and jennifer knapp

  12. Matt Norman says:

I Agree this stuff is great. Not only does she have a great voice, but the lyrics are so deep and meaningful. And, the music is great, even without any other stuff. I could totally see her sitting on a stage by herself on a stool with just a mic and her guitar singing her heart out and bringing people to the Lord.

As someone else said, Madeline if you are reading this please keep up what you are doing. I can see me doing a Madeline song in worship at my church some day. Thanks for the opportunity to listen to such great music.

  13. Robert McKinnon says:

Who’da thunk it? This young lady has already made such a tremendous impression on people who are mostly “music savvy” and in the business themselves. This says alot about her, Fred.

Like Ken said, I think you really need to do whatever it takes to get her back in the studio for some serious recording and get her out there. You better do it before someone else does! I can’t think of anyone better suited.

  14. Parker says:

Fred, we need more!!! When her songs are playing, I’m listening….it doesn’t turn into “background” music. I love the style, but by far, the lyrics on the past two songs have been authentically raw…incredibly mature and blessed for 16! Tell her to keep it up–I’m on the bandwagon. Madeline, if you read this, keep shining. p. 1:3.

  15. Peter Park says:

Awesome. My wife says she sounds like Jennifer Knapp.

  16. Betty Smith says:

Fred, I am Madeline’s grandmother. I am so proud of that young lady and I cannot wait to see what the Lord has planned for her future. Thanks for putting her out there. It has to be an encouragement to her!

  17. Brooke says:

Yes, she definitely has an awesome gift from God. With a voice like that it could be and I’m sure is already a huge witness to others. The Lord obviously has a massive plans for this young lady. You go girl!

  18. Hollie says:

I go to school with Madeline and she is one of my close friends!!! She is an amazing talented girl and I am so blessed to know her!
