From the Word: Jeremiah 42:7

Posted on February 12th, 2008 in Faith, From the Word by Fred McKinnon

“And it happened after TEN DAYS that the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah”.
Jeremiah 42:7, NKJV (emphasis mine)

I’m all of 60-seconds into my Bible time over at YouVersion.Com this morning and this verse slaps me in the face. Jeremiah has been petitioned by a bunch of important people to pray and hear from God on their behalf. Jeremiah says “OK”. He seeks the Lord.

The answer takes 10 days. TEN DAYS. That’s 1-1/2 weeks.

Can you imagine the pressure? Can you imagine the emails, IMs, tweets, and phone calls Jeremiah got … “have you heard yet, have you got anything”?

God hears, and He is faithful to answer. But not necessarily on our time table.

We all want instant gratification. But it just doesn’t always happen that way. Are you willing to wait? Will your faith waver if you have to wait? How long do you keep pressing in, praying, interceding, knocking, and asking? One prayer – two prayers? For a day – a few hours … weeks, months, years, decades?

Are you waiting? Don’t give up – keep praying.

For the Kingdom,
Fred

Very interesting! I read these same verses this morning. It really came alive to me as I ask, seek and knock, waiting in faith, for a creative miracle. I receive this post as a confirmation that I’m on the right track! Thanks.

    Dad,
Wow – how amazingly odd is it that out of all the verses in the Bible, you and I were both sitting on Jeremiah 42:7 this morning!

And fellow readers …. how cool and blessed is it to have a Dad who’s a Spiritual Dad, too … and who hangs out on your blog!

    Thanks, Dad – you’re awesome!

Thought I’d better post a comment here so it doesn’t look like only your dad reads your blog! ;-)

It’s very true. Sometimes I only wish it were 10 days!

Good post, Fred. First let me say that I can appreciate the spritual Dad thing. My father is a pastor and he and spent every Sunday afternoon together “watching” football games. However, most of these sessions ended up being more spiritual discussion and less football watching. I also think it is awesome that you and he were reading the same scripture this morning. God is good.

Now on to my comments about your post. I agree that it is very important for us to remember that God see everything and that because of this he delivers the answer when the time is right. I think we also need to remember that God always answers prayers, but he doesn’t always say yes. Sometimes his answer to our prayers is a loving and all knowing “NO.”

That’s a good word, Fred, and a timely reminder for me. Thanks for sharing what God showed you this morning.

Been waiting now for about five weeks. Trying to stay strong and keep on keeping on.
