Finally – Andrew’s MRI Results
Posted on March 4th, 2008 in Family, Life and Family by Fred McKinnonPraise God!
Our 21-month old, Andrew ….
he doesn’t seem to have a tumor, a mass, a hernia, or anything threatening.
We drove through the torrents of rain today to have our consultation (literally, like about 5 minutes, tops, which will cost about $400) with the surgeon down at Nemous in Jacksonville. The news was good.
Apparently, the MRI showed it wasn’t really a solid mass, tumor, or cyst. It appears to be really bad inflammation. It’s under the skin, and in the fatty area of the butt (kid’s got a fat butt, you say?). The radiologist and surgeon all feel that it’s inflammation from either an infection (that is most likely gone now) or possibly from some trauma such as falling down on a toy or something. I suspect it’s from falling on something, because when we originally saw the lump, it was somewhat bruised. If you could see these kids playing in the bathtub, which is covered with toys – you’d see how that can happen quickly.
Dr. Dokler confirmed what Joy and I have been saying for over a week – that this “lump” is definitely getting smaller.
Prognosis? Do nothing. Watch it … hopefully, it will continue to shrink and absorb back into the body, all on it’s own. No surgery recommended. She said that if it’s still there after 3-4 weeks … we can keep watching it. If it doesn’t go away anytime soon, we can look at surgical options … but for now … just leave it alone, and watch it (pray it) go away.
With news like that, the 2-1/2 hour drive for a 5-minute consult just didn’t bother me. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
Thanks to all of YOU for praying with us!
Fred
