What’s Love Got to Do with It?

So, we’re in the middle of this new series at SSCC called “What’s Love Got To Do with It”? (everyone hearing Tina Tuner now? good!)
Last week the message was on recognizing God’s love. We sang some great songs, including “See His Love,” “The Wonderful Cross,” “Mighty is the Power of the Cross”, “Amazed”, and the Beatles’ “Love Me Do”.
This week we are dealing with “Receiving God’s Love”. As an introduction to the sermon, we’re going to have about a 5-minute play time where I’ll become the “lounge lizard” at the piano … in a fun, entertaining way (hopefully) … walking the people through memory lane, jogging their thoughts, minds, and emotions with various snippets of famous songs about love. Some will be piano/vocal only … others will have the band become “house band” mates and join in the tunes.
So far, I’ve got a few ideas … I’d like to cover multiple generations and decades. Keep in mind, I only have about 4-5 minutes – we won’t be doing full versions – only enough of a snippet to bring the song back to life.
For some older generations, I’m toying with a brief medley of “My Funny Valentine” and “Misty”.
Other ideas include:
“What’s Love Got To Do With It” (Tina Turner, chorus only)
“Love Me Tender” (Elvis)
“How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You” (the infamous JT)
“You Give Love A Bad Name” (Bon Jovi)
for my last song, I’ll do the last few lines of Journey’s “Faithfully” on piano … “I’m forever yours ….. faithfully” and have the band/drums kick in with that big instrumental lead.
I could use 2-3 more ideas. I’m desperately out of touch with this current, teen generation …. sad, but at the same time, that’s not the demographic we have on Sundays … they are back in “Rush Hour” …. so, I’d love some input on something contemporary and fairly recent (last 1-2 years) that would hit a homer for that crowd. Our final “walk out” song at the end of the service will be a full cover of Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is”. What a great song – lyrically, it can be sung directly to God.
Ideas?
Fred
