Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)

Hey Everyone,
Most people have heard the version of “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” that Chris Tomlin released as part of the soundtrack to the “Amazing Grace” movie.
We’ve been using this song in church all last year, but will add it for Easter this year … but will be doing the version that I saw on the video of the 2007 Hillsong Conference Open. I edited the video and uploaded only the “Amazing Grace” segment below.
We’ll be using our new “C3 Choir” (C3= Community Church Choir) … right now, we have about 40-5o volunteers who are singing. I’ll bring the choir in on the Chorus, and will feature Shannon Lewis and Todd Hendrix as the lead vocals on the verses.
This will wrap up our opening set of worship this Easter Sunday. I’ll be posting the rest of our setlist shortly.

actually, I don’t like this version of ‘My Chains’ – it seems like it’s way too low for Tomlin and his signature voice doesn’t carry the song. I mean I LOVE this whole Hillsong presentation, but the key seems to be wrong or something… I’m glad that it worked for you guys though!

I actually somewhat agree .. what you are hearing, that does “not” work .. is that the verses are taken up one octave, but it’s impossible to sing the “My Chains Are Gone” part that high, so the Chorus actually DROPS down .. instead of raising up, as most Choruses tend to do …
I offset this by waiting until that moment to bring in the C3 (choir) and beefing up the high tenor parts, with a descant above the melody.
