Wonder What it’s Like to Get …

Posted on June 17th, 2008 in Cool Stuff, Technology by Fred McKinnon

Your ears filled with foam?

That’s what I did last week during the Willow Creek Arts ConferenceTravis called me as I was leaving my last session on Thursday to inform me that they had an audiologist on hand doing free in-ear impressions at the Sensaphonics booth.

So, since I’ve been saying I was going to get custom in-ear molds made for my Shure E5′s for 3+ years, I finally thought it was too easy to say “no”.  The impressions were free, and the actual cost of the silicone custom-fit in-ear molds were cheaper than usual, so I should have fully custom fit molds for my IEM in 4-5 weeks.

Chris is always around with a camera, so he happened to take some video.

Is this gross or what?  Seriously, I couldn’t hear ANYTHING when she did that.

Anyone else out there using custom molds?

    Robert,
But of course – I was in Chicago, IL – not McRae, GA. Know what I mean, Bubba? Sho nuff. Aw ight.

    I’m jealous!

I was at the arts conference last year and that was my first chance to hear the Sensaphonics. I loved them! But, they were not doing the free impressions.

    I will own them someday!

    Brent,
Yeah – that was a good deal, saving anywhere from $50-100 on having an audiologist due the impressions here, plus postage/fedex to Sensaphonics and back. The actual custom molds were $100 if you ordered them there .. of course, I didn’t get the Sensaphonics IEM’s … they are VERY NICE .. but I’m quite pleased with the Shure E5′s I’ve had since 2005. So, my new “clear” custom molds will fit right on the E5′s in place of those dark grey “universal fit” ones I have now … can’t wait.

I’m excited for ya. If you ever get the whole package and they give you the option for a custom finish, you should so get the rebel flag painted ones.

J – I thought I’d try and not draw attention to them, but that was an option, but I was thinking more along of something like “General Lee Orange” from the Dukes of Hazard.

For those who don’t get the southern/redneck humor so graciously offered by Robert and Jay, you must’ve missed this post:
