FreePlay Friday (6 Packs, Music, School, Toes)
Posted on August 1st, 2008 in Free Play Fridays by Fred McKinnon
(special thanks to Jason Church (Confessions of a Worship Leader) who took me up on the weekly request for a “FreePlay Friday” graphic. If you’d like to make a “FreePlay Friday” graphic header, email it to me, and I’ll plug you right here!)
Hey Everyone, it’s “FreePlay Friday” (view all “FreePlay Friday” Posts) … the day where I post whatever I want, on whatever topic(s) I want, with no regard to whether or not it does (or doesn’t) apply to the main theme of this blog, which is worship, worship leadership, church life, and music. What makes “FreePlay Friday” so much fun is that I want YOU to participate by either commenting on my topics or by entering your own, totally random “FreePlay Friday” thoughts in the comments section of the blog. So all you hundreds of RSS Readers need to just click on over now and finish the post on the site so you can participate. (please?)
Last Week’s “FreePlay Friday” Comment of the Week:
I love all the comments and dialog that happen on “FreePlay Friday” … last week, I laughed really loud at Jeff T’s comment. He seemed to appreciate the fact that I dislike Circuity City so much I won’t even give them the blog etiquette of a link. Jeff said, “Thanks for the warning sorry about your bad luck. “not worthy of a link” That’s comedic genius! I’ve always thought that THIS is the kind of stuff the FTC should deal with…”. Thanks, Jeff.
Will McKinnon, 6 years old, downs a 6-pack:
My 2nd oldest son, Will McKinnon … so, he walks into the room bright and early the other morning. He has a certain spark in his eye and skip in his step for pre-7:00 AM.
It’s clear to me that Young William (as his Uncle Rick likes to call him) is on a mission of some sorts.
Me: “Good morning, Will”.
Will: “Dad, can I have some yogurt”?
Me: (somewhat puzzled) “Um … sure, Will
I dunno, I write it off that he just woke up with some weird craving for yogurt.
Well, for those who know Will (or feel like you know Will from reading this blog), he always has a plan. Joy and I discovered his plan a few hours later.
Will single-handedly downed the whole 6-pack of Trix Yogurt. The whole thing.
Here’s the deal … it wasn’t the yogurt he was craving. It was the $10,000 PRIZE he was searching for. Seems Trix Yogurt has a big advertisement on their box claiming that some lucky yogurt partaker will peel back the foil lid to see the revelation “You’ve Won $10,000″. This became evident when next to the six empty yogurt cups, there were six foil lids with those depressing words, “SORRY – Play Again”.
“Restore My Heart” – Worship/Prayer Song on IndieHeaven.Com “FanFaves”
Many of you will remember this song I wrote. The founder of IndieHeaven.Com encouraged me to constantly keep one of my songs on IndieHeaven.Com’s “FanFaves” charts. It’s the 2nd most visited page on their site, and the higher the rating of the song, the more chance you have of getting your song included on their main radio show. Hey, radio and compilation royalties are nice, I have 4 kids to feed … but I’m more interested in the message of this song being expressed to everyone else out there that ROYALLY SCREWS UP in their relationship with God daily. (I’m a pro at this endeavor, which is why I wrote the song).
As of today (Friday, Aug 1), “Restore My Heart” is sitting at #44 on the FanFaves chart. Would you click over and vote for the song every day? (tie a ribbon on your finger to remind you). Oh yeah, don’t just vote. Listen. Make the song your prayer. Plus, Kim Dixon sings the 2nd half of this song – that alone is worth the listen. Her voice is angelic.
“School”
Back to school August 13. Except Joy is still torn about homeschooling. There are so many pro’s and con’s. Earlier this Summer, Joy was 99% on the homeschooling side. Now, she’s slipping back the other way. A decision must be made soon. Pray for us.
“Toes”
Andrew, our 4th child … he’s two years old. He’s beyond adorable. He’s talking quite clearly now. A long time ago, he scraped his toes when Rebekah was pushing him too fast in the “Cozy Coupe”. C’mon, you guys remember these things, right? Did you have one? (comment, hint hint)
It’s like a Fred Flintstone car almost. You put your feet down and scurry along. Problem is, when your older siblings decide to come behind you and push fast … and your feet and toes drag along. Or when your older siblings get the idea to tie the Cozy Coupe to the back of their bicycle and pull it along when you aren’t looking.
This happened at least 6 months ago. The toes are all healed. Yet, almost everyday Andrew says “toe hurt, toe hurt”. It’s his universal expression of “anything wrong”.
He had a little 2-year old fit by the swimming pool a couple of days ago. Screaming and such. Joy told him a few times to stop. He didn’t. So, Joy pulled him away from the pool, held his arm firmly and gave him one *very soft* spank on the hand.
Tears welled up in his eyes, and you know what he said? “Toe Hurt”.
What is YOUR UNIVERSAL EXPRESSION of UNHAPPINESS?
Share in the “FreePlay Friday” love and leave your comments.
Fred
