FreePlay Friday (Video and Ramblings)
Posted on August 8th, 2008 in Free Play Fridays by Fred McKinnon
(special thanks to Russ Hutto who took me up on the weekly request for a “FreePlay Friday” graphic. If you’d like to make a “FreePlay Friday” graphic header, email it to me, and I’ll plug you right here!)
Hey Everyone, it’s “FreePlay Friday” (view all “FreePlay Friday” Posts) … the day where I post whatever I want, on whatever topic(s) I want, with no regard to whether or not it does (or doesn’t) apply to the main theme of this blog, which is worship, worship leadership, church life, and music. What makes “FreePlay Friday” so much fun is that I want YOU to participate by either commenting on my topics or by entering your own, totally random “FreePlay Friday” thoughts in the comments section of the blog. So all you hundreds of RSS Readers need to just click on over now and finish the post on the site so you can participate. (please?)
Let’s Jump On It:
Today has been a bit frustrating, it’s 1:45 PM EST, it’s our first day back from vacation, and I’ve got NOTHING DONE because I’ve spent all morning troubleshooting email issues. So, “FreePlay Friday” is a bit late getting out, and I’m gonna make it a bullet-point quickie.
- Great week of vacation with the family. Video below … it’s hilarious.
- My blogging, worship leading friend, Billy Chia – he’s got a goal to grab 100 RSS readers for his blog. Check him out and consider subscribing via RSS if you haven’t already.
- Both FredMcKinnon.Com and TheWorshipCommunity.Com are now featured in Alltop – this is a great honor. See http://church.alltop.com

- “Restore My Heart” is still climbing the IndieHeaven Fan Faves charts, but it only has a short time left. It’s at #23 today – can you vote daily and help it get into the Top 10?
- I lost my sunglasses at the bottom of Lake Lanier when I flipped the jetski. (with two small kids on it). They laughed. That’s why I buy el-cheapo sunglasses at Circle K. Bought new ones at Target the next day, and they survived 24 hours before getting scratched and broken.
- I love watching the Olympics. I’m gonna be watching tonight in HD on NBC. Woo-hoo.
- Will (my 2nd oldest) is a daredevil. Nothing scares him. He was the first one brave enough to let my big ole’ fat self blast him into space on the “catapult” at the neighbor’s dock on Lake Lanier. Watch the video below, it’s hilarious.
- I don’t like August because it’s super-hot. I love August because college football and wedding bells. Joy and I were married August 15.
- HAPPY BIRTHDAY – FredMcKinnon.Com turned 4 years old this past week. Very little fanfare, eh?

Looks amazing! Will is da man!
Flipping a Jet Ski sounds like a lot of fun too.
August is such a hot month but it is so nice when you get to go to a pool or tubing on a river.

Haha! Nice video!
August for me is kinda bitter sweet. I feel like it’s the last month before losing that kind of summer feel, but then again it’s usually when our church year calendar picks back up and it gets really exciting.
Fred,
Thanks for the shout! I’ve been intentional about posting better content and have seen my RSS increase. I think I can hit 100 by December.
The catapult looks like tons of fun. Did you try it out?

I can’t believe I missed Freeplay Friday! By 23 minutes!
I just got home from a rare concert by Phil Wickham in a tiny local church in Connecticut. We dont often get people visiting New England, so it was a treat for our youth group tonight. It was amazing. He sings the life right out of himself and into you. God constantly filling him, he constantly pouring out.
Restore My Heart – hope it’s being voted for. We voted.:-)
August- I get a week off next week, and then back to UMass where the fun begins for fall! Just two weeks left to make sure we are ready. I do not enjoy these two weeks at all. AT ALL. But, God always covers me. He has NEVER failed to fill in all the missing links.
Well, happy Sat everyone.

Alastair,
First, go to validator.w3.org and make sure your RSS feed is fully valid and clean – you’d be surprised.
Second, send twitter messages to Guy Kawasaki @guykawasaki and tell him about what you’re doing.
That’s what I did … definitely took some proactive promoting on my part … I struggled (I always do) between the “work to get this resource out there” versus “self promotion” and reconciled that if I’m doing this, I must think it’s worth something, and if that’s the case, I’m not being a good steward if I don’t at least TRY to make it more successful by grabbing more exposure.
For the Kingdom,
Fred McKinnon
