Hey Everyone, it’s “FreePlay Friday” (view all “FreePlay Friday” Posts) … the day where I post whatever I want, on whatever topic(s) I want, with no regard to whether or not it does (or doesn’t) apply to the main theme of this blog, which is worship, worship leadership, church life, and music. What makes “FreePlay Friday” so much fun is that I want YOU to participate by either commenting on my topics or by entering your own, totally random “FreePlay Friday” thoughts in the comments section of the blog. So all you hundreds of RSS Readers need to just click on over now and finish the post on the site so you can participate. (please?)

Fred and Joy McKinnon, married 8/15/1998

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY:

I thought this event deserved a “FreePlay Friday” post of it’s own.  I promised a few “announcements” to some folks … I’ll make good, but not this week.  This day is reserved.

I became one of the most blessed men on the planet exactly 10 years ago today when Joy was brave enough to say “I do”.

We were married right here on St. Simons Island, GA.  At the time, we were at Christian Renewal Church on SSI and the sanctuary wasn’t large enough for our wedding so we had the ceremony at St. Simons United Methodist.  Our reception was like something from “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” at some dear friends’ home.  We were incredibly blessed by our friends, family, and church.

We spent the first night of our honeymoon at the Jekyll Island Club in one of their wonderful suites.  We spent the rest of the week at The Breakers Resort in West Palm Beach.

I hope that I can do my part to make the next 10 years even sweeter and better than the first ten.  The next ten years will take us through 10 years of ongoing, daily parenting.  We’d see our oldest son get his driver’s license.  How’s that for perspective.  Would you pray for us today?  Pray for our marriage, our family, and speak a blessing over it?

In closing – I’d like to give you an opportunity to say something wonderful about “that someone” …

1.  If you are married – how many years?
2.  Take a moment and use the comments to say something wonderful about your spouse.  If you aren’t married yet, but are in a relationship, feel free to type a blessing to them.  If you are single and wish to be in a relationship, maybe you could type a prayer.

Let’s hear from you!

Fred

  1. 8 years, 4 months, 21 days married. Jay is the best cause he makes all the ladies go “awww…” when he walks by and smooches me in the middle of choir practice! :)

Congrats on 10 years, we love you guys!

As of April 19…it’s was 11 years. Ross is all around amazing. I couldn’t have imagined him being as great of a father as he is. With 3 girls, his got his work cut out for him!

I also love that he brags about my cooking to people at work. When I walk in the office I always get “when are you going to bring us some of that famous (insert food item here)!”

    Brooke,
That’s what I’m calling LOVE … down to the day! I missed that whole smooch thing – too busy running choir practice I suppose – but way to go Jay.

    Mandy -
Congrats to you and Ross. I think it’s universally accepted that women love it when their men BRAG on them.

Well, I am the old one here I suppose. I’ve been married 24 years, 2 months, 13 days. (i had to really think about that). My husband and I got engaged on a mission trip to Montana to help a church plant. He asked me to marry him sitting on the floor, covered in paint one night. Not romantic perhaps, but a sign of things to come. (weve planted two churches) We were 17 and 18 years old at the time and were married not quite a year later. Yes, we were children. I know that now.

Well now we have three children – ages 23, 21 and 17. Fred, THAT is perspective. Although I will admit that teaching your children to drive is a spiritual experience you will never forget. My advice is to hire a driving school. haha – actually I am serious.

My husband is a wonderful man. We are frequently apart now due to the war. He is gone alot. That has been hard. But he is my best friend. If I could share one thing I most appreciate about Phil it’s that he believes in me. Whenever I’m asked to do something – which others may not think I can do or which may terrify me – he absolutely believes I can do it. He’s my biggest cheerleader and sees my gifts more clearly than others. He’s never backed down from encouraging me in ministry. I’ve faced alot of challenges as a woman in ministry or as a worship leader starting out all those years ago but he never wavered. Even when I wondered if I could make it, he never did. Of all the gifts I’ve received from him, that is the most precious to me.

  6. 15 years this last April, and through it all – thick and thin – I’d do it all over again. Three AWESOME kids (Ethan almost 14, David 11 and Julia 6) who all know who Jesus is.

    Jan,
Wow – well, you could teach us ALL a lot of things here, I’m sure. Didn’t realize your husband was serving in the war – will pray for him. What a wonderful tribute to how he’s blessed you.

    Robert,
Congrats on 15 years … to that little girl. (haha, I always liked saying that to Sandy). I agree, you have three awesome kiddos!

    Congratulations, Fred!

We’ve been married 5 years, 2 months, 7 days. My wife is compassionate, passionate, tender, sincere, loving, fun, one of the best violin players I know, an amazing mother, supportive, encouraging and SO much more!

14 years on September 3rd… Monica is the most patient woman in the world! Living with this loaf for that long… she has to be!!! She is also totally cool, exceptionally sexy (yes, I’m a minister and I can say that), can put Macgyver to shame with what she can do with so little, completely romantic and the best friend anyone can have.. We have 3 girls and I love it!

    God has truly blessed me…

15 years – five kids… where does the time go?

The best thing about Jill is how generous she is. Any given Sunday pretty much the entire youth group is at our house, and she’s always cooking for them. I’m truly blessed to have her to co-labor with in the Children’s ministry. I may be the pastor, but she’s in charge, and all the kids love her.

We renewed our vows after we got saved – had the church wedding we never had before. That was really amazing. (that she’d do it again!)

    Congrats on your anniversary!

    Mike

My wife, Dee Dee and I started dating on March 15th, 1975 when we were 15 years old, freshmen in High School. We got married on December 30th, 1979. We have been married for 29 years this December. She rescued me from most likely, jail, the street and probably death at a very early age. She was God-Sent if any of you believe in that type of special “Happening”. God Bless the relationships of man and woman!~~~

  13. James says:

Rhonda and I have been married for 4 1/2 years. I married way way up. She’s the hottest chick on the planet.

  14. Sis says:

OK – time for one of us “non-marrieds” to chime in! I’m almost 45, never been married, but am now (finally) in a relationship. Joe is amazing, for sure, but I’d rather take this opportunity to tell all the single folks out there to enjoy your life! Being single is not as easy as the world thinks it is, and you have been bold enough to hold off for God’s best! I say a prayer of blessing for all of you who see the married folks, and yearn for that to happen in your world. May God meet your needs in an incredible way, may your life be filled with friends and other family, and may you find peace and contentment in whatever circumstance you find yourself. And keep holding off for God’s best. He promises that you won’t be disappointed!

Finally, pray for those married folks, too! Develop great relationships with them and learn all you can from them. It’ll come in handy when the time comes!

  15. Jason says:

Fred! Congrats on your 10 year anniversary!

My bride and I have been married for 8 years as of this past Monday. I still get weak in the knees when I’m around her!

  16. Mom says:

As Fred’s Mom I can testify that our whole family has been blessed and enriched by this marriage! Joy is a wonderful addition to our family and these four grandchildren are totally AWESOME! As parents of grown children – we can say that it is such a blessing to have three of ours married and three wonderful daughters-in-love and 9 wonderful grandchildren and all love the Lord!

Fred’s Dad and I celebrated our 47th anniversary in June. I love my Bill more than ever and am still passionately ‘in love’ with him! He is a godly man and minister and has been an example to his family as to how submitting to the Lordship of Jesus can change your life! We have a wonderful marriage and hold “Prepare-Enrich Seminars” to help other couples enrich their marriage. Thank you, Fred, for this opportunity to share!

  17. Russ says:

    Married 2 years! Loving it!

My wife is AMAZING! I’d be lost without her, literally. We have such a fun relationship. It’s a blessing to be married to her and an honor and privilege that she chose me to live life with!

“Mom” has about said it all. She’s my wife, my sister in the Lord, my very best friend, and my lover! Yes, I am a minister, and I can say that! Forty-seven plus years, and still going strong. My love for my Ginger is stronger than ever, and I depend upon her for soooo much! Her love, support and faithfulness is so God-like, and I love her with my whole heart! Counting on many, many more joyous years together! Fred and Joy, Happy Anniversary! You and your four are such a blessing to us!

2 Years, 3 months, 6 days and counting. It’s the best thing that ever happened to me. When we started dating, I made her a puzzle with 12 pieces. On the puzzle, I had a poem that I wrote for her and a picture of us together at a banquet. I gave her 1 piece every month on the day we started dating. The last piece said “Will you Marry Me?” It was AWESOME!!
