Healer – Mike Guglielmucci Exposed
Posted on August 20th, 2008 in Church Life, Faith, Music by Fred McKinnon
Nothing upsets me more than fakes and lies in the Kingdom of God. We’re all capable. Let me make that clear. We are ALL capable.
I’ve been telling everyone I know about “Healer”. The power of this song. I just got the DVD so I could feature Mike’s video testimony at our Sept 7 “Night of Worship”.
Then I get the news – his “terminal illness” … it was all a lie. Another massive scandal in the Kingdom.
Right now, I want to punch someone. But I know I need to pray instead. Pray for Mike. Pray for everyone who is hurt by this scandal. I even pray it’s not true – that it’s a horrible hoax. If so, I’ll be the first to let everyone know. I hate even posting this “news”, but after promoting this song and story so heavily, I feel I must.
I’m going to the Rooftop at SSCC to lead an hour of prayer and worship. That’s the best we can do right now.
This has to hurt. It has to hurt Hillsong. It has to hurt Integrity. It has to hurt the Kingdom of God.
I’ll blog more on this, Mr. Bentley, and others when I can. For now, I’ve gotta pray.
See the news headlines here.
Fred

We, as the church, truly need to pray for Mike and his family. Why? How? What in the world could have prompted this man (who was apparently very successful in ministry already) to “fabricate” this kind of story?
We don’t and maybe will never know. I appreciate your saying that we are ALL capable of doing such a thing. We stand in our self-righteousness and proclaim that we would NEVER do such a thing, but then some kind of circumstance occurs and we find ourselves doing, saying, thinking and dreaming things we never thought we were even capable of.
There is no telling what this man is going through. There is no telling what has happened to prompt this. NOTHING can make it right. But mercy tries to empathize and has compassion. It hates the sin. It hates the circumstances that built up to the sin. It hates the accuser of the bretheren. But it doesn’t hate the sinner.
I pray for Mike, his family, his church and his friends. That they will make it through this tragedy and that Mike will find healing both spiritually and soulish. I pray for the music industry that will take a hit from this.
But just as much I pray for the church (that’s all of us) – that they will see this right and not lose ground as they “murder” this fallen soldier. If the church responds righteously, then Mike WILL be healed and RESTORED. The music industry will not take a hit, and we will even be able to still sing this wonderful song. The SONG isn’t bad. The MESSAGE of the song shouldn’t even be seen as tainted.
That’s what I’m talking about.

How sad is it that this doesnt shock me. It saddens me but doesnt shock me. Im with yall about praying for him and his family. I dont know about yall but it just reminds me that NO ONE is safe from satan. We all try to be, of course, but he preys on us all. I think we sometimes forget that just because we are saved doesnt mean we are safe. Just my opinion.
Even though we are all capable of this it disgusts me! I mean, come on, the guy is a pastor even! We just sang this song for the 1st time at church Sunday! I heard the “story” behind it. What a joke! Guess he needed attention or needed to get more people into his church. I dunno. What a dissapointment!
Can’t condone some things folks! Sickening. I don’t feel sorry for this man!
This is astounding. Why? You’re right, Fred. We can only pray for Michael and his family, and that those touched by the song don’t hear this and give up hope.
I linked to this post on my own blog, so others can share. Sad day.

Right on, Robert! See James 2: 12,13.

I am with you on this Fred, I have promoted this song like crazy and I even showed the testimony video last Sunday to our people! That really upsets me!!! I am praying for him, his family, church and Hillsong. I know God will still use this song to bring Him glory!!!
I am sad about this, too! Amazing.

i had to post as well, due to my promotion of the song…but i don’t feel that i can allow this to take from the song and the meaning of the song…it was not about him, it was about our Healer…i have to focus on that…
it’s in our set for this weekend and it will stay there…it’s been powerful in my life, regardless of the man behind it…

Sad news but again a reminder to us. Experience is not foundational. God’s movement in the present nor its accompanying buzz is either. Only the historical salvific activity of Christ crucified, buried and risen is Gospel in its truest sense. I would pray this would allow the charismatic movement to regain some lost filters (not all but the buzz/bentley chasers) but still retain their freshness they bring to the Body. Not every story is “of God” nor even true. Yet, as a non-charismatic in the classic sense, I would say to you charismatics, don’t lose your freshness, just filter it. The body needs all of us.

Jordan,
I’ve been in mtgs. all day long, so haven’t even been able to reply to comments – but I will say this, I think it’s extremely short-sighted for you to regulate this to “charismatics”. (seems a bit presumptions and judgmental, too).
I dunno, I’m far from the best of moods today – but that caught me wrong, big-time.

Mike didnt do this to promote his church, he did it to cover up a drug addiction.
I know how you guys feel as i have been to several of his seminars.
He seems like such a man of God!
Wow…it really is shocking to hear this news. I pray that we as the body of Christ would pray for him, and now step up and be what the body of Christ is supposed to be: Christians who are there for people even in there biggest mess ups….
My God reached down and grabbed my hand, when I was in my deepest darkest sin. I didnt earn forgiveness, nor deserve it. Why do we focus on the wrong things this man has done? I praise God for the season of power and salvation that was caused by Gods Word through Mike. Thankyou God for Mike Guglielmucci.
As as an Australian I know that this man was one of the leading youth speakers in the country ,not just at Hillsong but at Planetshakers, Youth Alive and the AOG church .Hundreds of thousands of kids had heard him and looked up to him.
It’s them I am praying for. That they won’t have been put off believing or following Jesus by this sham and disgrace.
He needs to take responsibility for his actions.
Boy oh boy…
I think many of us will agree it’s still a good song, and maybe it was not so true for Mike, but the song can still be true to us. God is our healer. Nothing is Impossible for Him. These are great lyrics everyone.
How many of you plan to pull the song from your setlists? Temporarily or permanently?
There was one comment above claiming Mike was covering up a drug addiction… is that fact or fiction?

I’m not sure what I’ll do with the song. I know that it contains truth, regardless of its inception. Fortunately, most of the worshippers I associate with wouldn’t know anything about this scandal, so it might provoke me to use it after all. Still a really sad and ridiculous situation.

Fred, I wasn’t relating this back to all charismatics. My whole in-law family comes from a charismatic background and many of them have a great filter. I came out of a childhood charismatic church. It might be presumptive but in our church with tons of charismatics and tons not, it seems to my humble observation like I sometimes can’t get the non-charismatics to believe much in regards that God does anything actively today, the contra- of our NorthWood charismatics to whom I often want to say, “Make sure you check that out…” when I hear a wilder (in my own mind) story of God’s activity. The assessment is not meant to be pejorative and is only a reflection of how people tend to react in our half-n-half congregation, which I wouldn’t trade for anything. There are several charismatics who tend to look back at God’s historic activity more than His present and non-charismatics who do the opposite. I am not trying to put anyone in a box. I think it is okay at times to recognize patterns and trends I see within our particular body.
jordans last blog post..A Great Question to Ask People
I’m an Australian Southern Baptist Youth & Worship Minister working in a church in Virginia, taught in Bible School by the likes of Mike Frost, Alan Hirsch & John Smulo… I’m basically all over the place… I hear you Jordan… but I’ve heard too many times back home in Australia many people criticising AOG’s and charismatics… and yet they do a wonderful job reaching kids and pouring their hearts into worship… whether it’s Hillsong or Planetshakers or Parachute… let’s not box people, regardless of what the trends may say.
Will I pull the song from our setlist? I honestly will find it hard to separate the controversy from the song… but I need to get over it… David was a murderer and an adultery… that doesn’t make the Psalms any less God inspired.

Fred,
I was in prayer yesterday as well.

I wasn’t too upset by the news – I mean the blow to the Church hurts, but God is bigger. He’s big enough to take it. He’s been showing me this recently in a huge way.

Thank God he has grace. It is in these times we get the chance to show the world how great the church can be, if we respond accordingly. I appreciate your response to this issue. God has anointed this song, and regardless of man, is still a Healer.

My church has requested us not to play the song for now. It is sad, I loved the song before i heard the story of his (fake) illness. I would hope that this “beauty from ashes” will continue to be played as it is a blessing to all who sing it. My encouragement is for us to do what we are called to do….. don’t judge, trust God, pray for forgiveness and forgive those who have wronged us.
Regardless of this song coming from a man who lied about his inspiration we are called by God to focus our eyes on him and to further his kingdom. This presents an opportunity for all of us to grow spiritually and maybe instead of focusing on the unfortunate circumstances surrounding this we should focus on prayer and support for all of those affected, personal friends of mike as well as those who never knew him but were touched.
Wow, I see a lot of panic in churches and individuals – a mad rush to succeed, to sort of shoulder God aside and say, “Move over – you’re clearly not getting the job done.” Mr. Guglielmucci seems to have succumbed to this.
I guess my question is: Why is such signifigance attached to a song? Had not so many churches run after this one in particular, it wouldn’t have been an issue. I’ve done it a thousand times too, but no more, you know? No more looking for ‘The Next Big Thing’.
james – we are in the process of praying through whether or not we’ll be using this song as well.
Ed – good words … it’s hard not to go after something when there seems to be such favor on it. It’s human nature – we’re wired that way.
When reading some of the comments, I started wondering what if some of this is tied to the (not always bad) subjectivity of our worship songs. A lot of this songs power/favor/anointing (or whatever word you want to use) was tied to the story behind it. I wonder if some of the more objective hymnody of the past would have taken such a hit? Would O Sacred Head Now Wounded, A Mighty Fortress, Fairest Lord Jesus and others taken the beating this song is taking if their composer’s had such a public failure? Thoughts anyone.

Ooh, Jordan – I never thought of that. Of course, a hundred years ago the stories didn’t spread over the internet in .04 seconds.
Fred, you know my story better than most here. I hear this story and can’t help but hear echoes of my own. That in mind, let’s re-emphasize that this guy CONFESSED. He owned up to his junk. He took responsibility and is even now (at last report) submitting himself to police investigation (and prosecution) for fraud.
There is so much grace for this situation and personally, knowing the outrageous favor God has poured out on me lately…well, let’s just say that I know that I trust that God will bless Mike’s socks off in direct proportion to his repentence and transparency.
There’s no doubt in my mind that he can be restored to ministry. Will he ever regain the trust of those he betrayed? Maybe not, but that is between him, them, and God, as it should be.

I stand with you Fred. It’s easy to judge but hard to forgive and restore. I stand with you in prayers for this man who has inspired so many young lives worldwide… God is God and that NEVER changes!!
Ben,
Thanks for jumping in … and point well taken! Where have you been? Does B-A-M own your soul? I know Fox will soon! (well, not your soul)
We should be asking questions like: Why is some one who is so very screwed up a pastor? Was that position his true calling or a role that was ready for him to step into as a prominent pastors son? It is not uncommon in the pentecostal church circles for uncontested promotion of family members in churches. Obviously an unhealthy practice.
Where is the wisdom, discernment and accountability?
I have friends that council big leaders of big churches, who cannot go to their own for help as they would be expelled, seems like the church needs to have a good look at their protocols.
Why was the cancer lie swallowed when family and some people close to him were aware of a problem with hypochondria?
Following is an extract published recently: – In an exclusive interview with Adelaide’s Sunday Mail this week, Mr Guglielmucci also revealed:
HIS son has been suffering “mystery illnesses” since the age of 12.
DOCTORS gave his parents the option of admitting him to a psychiatric ward for assessment as a child over the ongoing “illnesses”, but they refused.
THE family’s “absolute shock” at discovering Michael was not terminally ill.-
Surely there would have been questions of the legitamacy of the cancer claim based on a history including: Multiple myelomas (sic) or kidney failure or 33 broken bones or leukemia or stomach cancer.
I find it amazing (unbelievable) that close family including his wife never attended a doctors appointment. When someone you love is critically ill, it is commonplace to ask questions of the doctors involved to get answers and to support the ill person, at least in my experience it is.
I sincerely hope we are now getting the truth and not further deception, there has been more than enough damage done already.
I haven’t followed this all terribly closely, but what I want to know now is this: has this guy taken responsibility not only for his actions, but for the repercussions? Yeah, we’ve all fallen, and yeah, forgiveness and restoration are the goal – but if he won’t take responsibility for his actions, or tries to dodge the consequences, restoration is a long, long way off.

Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
Philippians 1: 15-18
People, wake up and admit that Pastor Michael is nothing but a scum-bag, who callously exploited the most vulnerable for his own psychological kicks and to line his pockets. He is not worthy of your pity or prayers. Ask yourself – has he said sorry to the thousands he gave false hope to? Just how low can a so-called ‘man of God’ stoop? Don’t be another apologist, wimping-out by saying “it’s what he’s said that counts” etc. That’s a cop-out and exactly the sort of approval (via redemption) he and his multi-million dollar Church now seeks, to admonish his perverted acts. Throw him, and those that harbour him, to the wolves. There’s more vitriol on my web site directed towards this evil-doer [click name above]
Mike did not do it to promote his church, or because of drugs. He did it because he has been an adult pron addict for 16 years and no one knew. I saw him at hillsong this year. I never thought he had cancer because he lived to long, when I heard this I said to God “please don’t let me do that when I get into australias top theatre.” So we should pray for him so that God helps him, come out of that addiction. It says in the bible our (deepest most darkest) sins will find us out. It also says the Truth will set us free. So pastor Mike is on the road to freedom!!
You’re right, we do need to pray for them. We talked about this kind of stuff in church last night. About how we should pray for them and not talk bad about them or gossip. Thank you for posting this.
the guy needs deliverance. i know a few individuals in planetshakers, one guy has been addicted to porn for 15yrs!!! so the Mike case is a tip of the ice berg.hundreds of young people in these mega chrches needs deliverance.that wont go away by jumping up and down each week.unless GOD unilaterally decides to muv and deliver someone the rest is wishful thinking.people must pray.the big question is where were the prophets in all this????since we hear prophecies week in and week out???this issue needs to be examined left right and sender and come up with greater connection with GOD. being an addict of porn is a sugar coated way to describe that situation. the guy is bound, held captive by it. he needs deliverance, period, finitio, benediction!!!!
“LEADER?” “LEADERSHIP”?????!!!
IS THAT IN THE BIBLE????
Just wondering,
the word “LEADER” how many times was it mentioned in the NEW (Jesus) TESTAMENT,
1-The KJV/NKJV/ASV/NIV I found NONE,
BUT in other translations I found a mention to the word leader couple of times and here it is:
-Mt 23:10 “Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ.
- Lu 22:26 “BUT IT IS NOT THIS WAY WITH YOU, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the SERVANT.
Well now we understand that Jesus did not come to recruit leaders….leadership maniacs, you wanna be a leader because off course you are TALENTED, FIND somewhere else to show off but not in the house of PRAYER.
BY the way, I here you asking, the word “SERVANT”, how many times was mentioned in “GRACE (NEW) TESTAMENT..you wouldn’t believe it!! Mr. “me me me I wanna be a leader in the church because I am talented”…..WHAT?!!
1- in KJV is 79 times
2- in NKJV is 80 times.
3- The American Standard Version 82times.
4- in NIV is 97 times
5- The Good News Translation 106 times!!!!!!
WATDDAA!!!! 2:106
Was that an accident?! well Jesus did not come to recruit “talented/awesome/handsome/gifted..etc LEADERS”
HE (Jesus)discipled his followers to SERVE SERVE SERVE
IN HUMILITY depending completely on their ONLY LEADER, JESUS THE SERVANT KING…..
STOP LEADING THIS LIFE STYLE BY SERVING AND ONLY SERVING…
A LEADER has followers, and when he falls……!
It would have been much better, if they followed the only MASTER AND a LEADER….the one that said “””Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?””John 8:46
here is THE true leader that was not believed…
and here is a fraud that every one believed…..Irrrronic…!!
I think what happened recently confirms the credibility of THE ONLY LEADER…
when he said Matthew 24:24 “For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect–if that were possible.”
IT IS A SIGN FOR HIS SECOND COMING!! here is a positive for what happened…
also the only teacher “LEADER” said:
IN Matthew 24:19 “How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! ”
Is that literally??? or may be he meant the vulnerable like the youth and that are not taught proper biblical teaching from Church Servants…
PLEASE READ MATTHEW 24. it is good..
Read it just read it… MATTHEW 24
A Saved sinner!
