We have some upbeat, opening songs that we do that will get the congregation to engage, as well. But when I think of the word “engage” I tend to lean toward the experience in worship where a person lays it all down… where they surrender it all and lay their lives at the feet of Jesus. Those are, by far, the sweetest, most ‘engaging’ moments for me to witness and take part in as a worship leader.

In our youth environments (Not only at Inside Out & Rush Hour, but also including this Summer at the Gathering Place & Team Effort) some of the most powerful “Honey Hole” songs are “You Never let Go” by Matt Redman, “Sweetly Broken” by Jeremy Riddle, and – even though we’ve played it into the ground the kids only grow more responsive to it – “Marvelous Light” by Charlie Hall. If I were to add an honorable mention, “All I Have” (Vineyard) is easy to pull off and always gets a good response as well.

“Friend of God”

either one of those will get people moving. There are others, but those are the heavy hitters. “Freedom” by Jason Upton is also a song that has some very personal roots for our church, and will stir up a wellspring of emotion.

For worship times, “Hungry” never, ever fails. “Agnes Dei” runs a close second. Any of those songs anyone on the worship team can play without a second thought. “Revelation Song” might wind up on that list.

For our choir, we always go back to “I Need You to Survive” when the congregation needs a lift.
