Sunday Setlists #14 – Worship Service Recaps

Hey Everyone!

So it’s nearly 5:30 PM EST – and since I’ve already gotten emails, text messages, and tweets about Sunday Setlists, I figured I’d get my lazy self off the bed and upstairs to type this out!  Truth is, I love doing Sunday Setlists, but if I don’t do it right after church, nap time trumps.

What’s “Sunday Setlists”?  It’s the place where you can share your worship recaps … whether a written review or a video worship confessional, we share our ideas, song lists, sermon topics and whatever else you wish to disclose.  It’s a great network that grows each week and offers some great ideas for worship.

The rules are important – they are what makes it work.  Last week, at least 10 of you had your links deleted because you didn’t follow da rules.  So … “follow da rules”.  (everyone smiles)

Da Rules:

1.  Blog about your Sunday.  Share your worship music setlists, sermon topics, and overviews.
2.  In your actual blog, you must link back to THIS POST, and share that you’re participating in “Sunday Setlists”.  It doesn’t matter how you word it – most say something like “I’m posting this review in collaboration with other worship leaders in the “Sunday Setlists” blog carnival at FredMcKinnon.Com.
URL:  http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2008/10/26/sunday-setlists-14/
3.  After completing #1 and #2 above, come back here (you should be able to click the link in your blog entry you just made, right?) and fill out the Mister Linky below.  This is where is must get confusing.  Don’t put your blog’s homepage link.  Don’t put MY link again.  Put the URL (Link) to YOUR Sunday Setlists post on your blog.  (You don’t have to title your blog entry “Sunday Setlists”, btw!)
4.  Leave a comment, letting us know that you’re participating, and visit the other sites in the Mr. Linky!

*if your review doesn’t include a link back to this page and/or if your link in the Mr. Linky points anywhere other than your “Sunday Setlist” post, your link in the Mr. Linky will be eaten by the Mr. Linky Robot from ….

*** Sunday Setlists for St. Simons Community Church, Oct. 26, 2008 ***

I really wanted to do a video worship confessional today, but we didn’t get home from lunch ’til after 2:00 PM, I had a U-Haul to unload, and needed some rest.  So here’s my text recap:

Walk-In:  Hosanna (Paul Baloche) – Key of G
Used the loop I created back in this post.  Really wanting to make this one of our “go to” songs for the next season, so we’re using this a lot.

Opening:  Meet With Me (led by Kim) – Key of G
We did it pretty fast – much faster than most recordings that are more laid back.

God of This City (only the 2nd time we’ve done this, no special video, but great stories prior to singing)
Key of C

Be Unto Your Name (the old Robin Mark, Revival in Belfast version –  can’t get enough of this song!)
Key of C

Special:  “Arise and Be Comforted” (Kim Dixon, from the Grand Piano)
(Watermark Arr.) (not sure of key)

Sermon:  David spoke on Week 2 of Dating, Sex, and Marriage.  He was in rare form.  He made more jokes and “I can’t believe he just said that” moments than I recall in quite a while.  Somehow, he took a serious issue (re: dating and sexual intimacy) and made it hilarious.  It will be live on the podcast in a day or two.

Closer:  “Center” (Kim)
Key of D
Walk-Out:  “Hosanna” (Paul Baloche)

Everything went great except for these hiccups.
1.  for whatever reason, all of us constantly forgot the lyrics on the Pre-Chorus of “Hosanna”.  We’d keep singing “Cause In Your Presence” (the 2nd line) instead of “Cause When we See You”).  It became quite humorous.
2.  I learned that you must be careful about what all is happening on your laptop when using it for loops.  As I opened it back up during the closing prayer of the early service, the Sound guys had it turned on – and as it awakened from it’s “sleep mode”, I had 2 very loud iCal reminders beep about some Newcomer Pastoral Followup meetings I had in between services. Doh!

Your turn – share your recap!

  3. Hey Fred,

    Forgot to complete the link!

Be Unto Your Name is an amazing song. The contrasts between who God is and who we are are so humbling. Who Am I by Mark Hall comes to mind as another song that provides similar contrast … hmm … a medley me thinks!

  4. Fred,
I’m planning on introducing “God Of This City” in a few weeks at Westwood. I’d like to hear more about the “great stories prior to singing” that you mentioned.

    Thanks,

We use the PK7 version of Hosanna a lot for the youth services on Wednesday night. Just a reminder to you, Fred, that I will trying to catch up with you sometime tomorrow afternoon. I think you will have some priceless input on what I’m going to share with you. I look forward to visiting with you then.

‘Bout time, napping man…funny, I haven’t done a Sunday set-list for week or two because the nap trumped the composition. Glad to know that I’m not the only one!

Today, I posted FIRST, and THEN managed a THREE HOUR NAP!

What a great site! Thanks for putting it together, Fred! =)

For a suggestion, would you please post the key you played it in next to the songs you post? It would be helpful to the rest of us who are composing setlists. =) Blessings brother!

    posted!

We introduced God of This City…I know, I know behind the times. But we rocked it intentionally with a message series geared towards creating “margin” in our lives so that God can use us to do greater things in our city…so it was worth the wait.

I connected with Baloche’s Hosanna from the first line when I heard. Made for the church.

  13. Dean Lusk says:

Posted! I put our “Hosanna” metrononme loop on a CD and I have the sound guy hit it and fade it in. Seems to go smoother than the one time we fired it from the PC. Plus, we use MediaShout (which uses the Windows Media codec) and it sounds very compressed — nasty-sounding compressed. I don’t have a computer on stage, since we don’t do much with sequences at this point.

  14. What’s up! Awesome setlist. Hey don’t worry Fred I have been in that lazy mood as well.

  15. Janaki says:

  19. Kyle says:

Other than an XLR cable rebelling and practicing witchcraft on stage in the middle of the set and cutting out critical sound from entering the ears of the congregation thus creating several akward moments, everything went great. You can read how we drove out the XLR demon in the middle of the set here.
