Fred,

Love the pic. I so miss that age. Enjoy them now, even in the days you dont feel like it. Now that Jamie is practically an adult, I look back at the times when I could or should have enjoyed him more and didnt.

Hey Fred! I'll take a "Free-play Saturday" if that's all I can get!

I can certainly identify with your "funk" experience. Been there, done that! Although it may be caused by something we did or neglected to do (or eat!), sometimes it is just something you have to "get through", but I have found that if I do something intentional, it speeds the process. Just trying to distract myself with work, or TV or even music, usually only prolongs it. But prayer or worship or even felowship with my wife or other believers usually brings a breakthrough pretty quickly.

Then again, sometimes, I just need a venti house blend from Starbucks! ;)

BTW, love the Uninted Pursuit Band! Very raw and real.

Thanks, Ya'll -

Alan, funny you should mention coffee ... we are all doing various versions of a 21-Day fast at our church. I've done it different ways - this year, I'm not doing the full "only fruit and vegetables" version - but I'm fasting sugars, sweets, treats, soft drinks, and ..... caffeine.

I'm a coffee/caffeine addict, and I can't help but think that part of this feeling is a result of my body in detox ... and even though we're eating "meat" - we're eating healthy ... and so, Joy and I are both feeling like we're constantly hungry. We're already tired of carrots for a snack, and these bland "all-natural, whole grain crackers".

So, on top of the spiritual stuff, I've got this overall crankiness that comes with feeling hungry and unsatisfied ... know what I mean?

Hey Fred, thanks for sharing your stuff with honesty. I'm certain that your post inspired lots of prayer for you, and if you hadn't posted abut your "funk", well... who would know how to pray for you? Way to be real, brother. I find that vast amounts of coffee get me so wired that I forget about the funk I was in, and I set out finding things to do.

Jason's reply is right on, focus on serving others. There is pure joy in that.

Fred, Ithink you hit it when you said O-ppressed. Sometimes it has a big trigger event and sometimes its just the cummulative effect of small adversities.

I've had it heavy the last few days - the cummulative effects. The "lots of little things" that I don't stop for and take care of because of the pressures of the immediate. Finally on Thursday, I had to drive to Hinesville to take care of some stuff for my Dad. Even though there were a hundred other things clamoring for my attention, I had no choice but to sit, be still and drive. I had WAYRadio on and just listened. Slowly I unwound and was able to remember that God is the source and resource of every aspect of my life. His comfort and joy poured in and I felt freedom I'd not "felt" in some time. I know it's not about "feelings" but oppression is a "feeling" too and the release was SWEET.
Bless you brother!

Fred,

Man, I can SO relate with this. I wrote a post about this a few weeks ago, and I have found that by focusing on serving others, those feelings go away. http://www.transparentchristianmagazine.com/2008/11/19/grace-doesnt-walk-away-we-do/

I love the picture of your child on your shoulder. That is an "ah" moment for me as well... We owe it to them to ask these questions don't we. :-)

Have a BETTER day today man, and think of 10 things you are grateful for.

Sometimes for some reason I just have those days I don't know why. Sometimes though, it is linked to a missed or rushed prayer. Or not reading the scriptures that day. But when those day do come I go to a quiet place and meditate on God for a little while and allow all that negativity to leave and I find peace in Jesus.

One day I will be holding my kids in my arms!
