FreePlay Friday – Twitter, Giveaways, Weekend

Hey Everyone -

Can you say “It’s Friday”!?????   Woo-Hoo!  FreePlay Friday is a fun day for me and you – we talk about whatever we want here on Friday, and break the routine of discussions on faith, church, worship, worship leadership, music, etc.

The last few days of this week have been me sneezing, itching, coughing, dripping, blowing (ok, I’ll stop).  Spring time and pollen counts seem higher than ever before.  The normal cocktail of allergy meds for me aren’t doing it this week.  NyQuil was my friend last night.

Here Goes the Randomness

  • I can hardly type, I’m bobbing my head so hard … side-to-side … rock … back and forth … that’s because I’m listening to the brand new Israel Houghton CD, “The Power of One“.  Holy smokes.  Groove galore.
  • Rebekah’s birthday is this weekend.  Family coming to town, “Marriage Live Beach Bash” tonight at church, soccer games in the AM on Jekyll Island, and then Bekah’s birthday party.  Hope it doesn’t rain.
  • Twitter … it’s definitely here to stay for a while folks.  I’m taking over social media and networking “officially” for our church . We already have a twitter account for the church @sscc … but just got a new one going for our missions team in Kenya @sscckenya.  Way cool, they are sending live twitter updates “from the field” in Kenya.
  • FREE GIVEAWAY:
March is almost over, which means it’s time to have the monthly FREE GIVEAWAY drawing over at HighestPraise.Com.  This month’s freebie is Lincoln Brewster’s “Today is the Day” CD and WorshipToolBox resource (DVD with instructional videos, chord charts, lyrics, sheet music, etc).  All you have to do is signup for the E-News from HighestPraise.Com.  You can expect maybe 3-5 emails per month, usually announcements about worship-related resources and new songs from HPP and some of our friends.

Wassup for your weekend?  Back to the Twitter thing … do you use it?  Does your church?  How is your church, ministry, or business using Twitter or other social media?

BRING IT ON.

  1. We have a birthday this weekend too. Today actually…My son is 2!

Tomorrow morning I’m supposedly running a half marathon and then in the afternoon we’re throwing a party for the boy.

I’ll be sleeping well tomorrow night!

    And I love twitter too!

I use twitter like a maniac. I’m convincing a lot of our team members to at least check it out.

It’s amazing to me how many people still don’t know what it even is.

Not only does he tweet like nobody’s business. He ALSO manages to leave all of his coffee related daily activities out of his twitter posts.

Hey Fred, how’s the social media thing working for your church? I’m just now seeing some sink into Facebook. I get funny faces and laughs when words like “tweet” or “twitter” come out of my mouth. Are you leading this? Or is it something ya’ll as leaders felt needed to be given b/c of what you saw the congregation already engaging in? Just curious if you could share some thoughts on that.

Thanks man, and I’m blown away by what Sunday Setlists have become! Amazing!

    • Conner,
Yeah – good to have you back on Sunday Setlists! I just posted a new blog today about where we’re doing w/ social media. I’m leading it, and it’s definitely not something they are actively engaged in. Someone said “why should we do this, nobody even knows what it’s about” and I said “exactly – why give in to culture, let’s CREATE culture”. Let’s influence, not be influenced (or lack of influence).

The way I see it, it’s a good thing that we can be proactive in bringing awareness of this to the Church, and leveraging online/social media/networking for the Kingdom.

I went and saw the movie 12 Rounds this weekend. That was my main excitement. Besides that my aunt invited to pay for me to fly down to her condo in Naples, Florida. Yay! 3 more weeks and I will be in paradise!
Hmm… I quit twitter because it wasn’t for me. I am an introvert who likes to have deep meaningful life changing one on one conversations. You never know though I may go back there to twitter land someday.
