Monday Muse – I Am Most Likely To Sin When I …

Posted on April 27th, 2009 in Faith, Monday Muse by Fred McKinnon

Hey Gang,

Last week I kicked off the week with a question on Twitter.  I asked “What is God speaking to you” (3 words or less).
My Twitter @reply and FaceBook account went crazy with answers.

I decided to kickoff each week with something for us to muse.

muse: to think or meditate, to comment thoughtfully

Monday Muse:

“I am most likely to sin when I ….”

  1. …don’t spend daily time in prayer and in God’s word.

  2. Daddy says:

Live as a “mere man” as opposed to living as a new creature.

  3. When I’m awake. (LOL)

Seriously, when I take my eyes and thoughts off of the Lord. It doesn’t take long after that.

  4. I am most likely to sin when I’m tired, lonely, or hungry. I am most likely to sin when I’m away from my lovely bride. I’m most likely to sin late at night, which is why I go to bed early.

  5. Bay Roberson says:

When I try to handle stress or problems on my own. Almost every single sin I committ is a result of me trying to meet a need (financial, physical, emotional) on my own.

  6. …not worshiping God.

    The deets:

Rom 12:1 “…God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” [The Message]

2 Tim 2:15 “Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple.” [The Message]

Col 3:17 ” Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.” [The Message]

    • Slight revision/enhancement as I am teaching through Francis Chan’s book CRAZY LOVE in our Sunday School.

“…am not loving God or others as He loves them.”

This week’s chapter talks exactly about this, using Gal 5:13-14 “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Still falls within the overall definition of “worshiping God”, just thought I would share!

  7. Russ Hutto says:

    when I’m alive.

I agree with the “breathing” and “awake” comments.

Thing is, when I think I’ve got an area under control and move on to another, the challenge doesn’t just go away. Life isn’t a linear series of hurdles that we jump over.

We’re in the middle of temptations, trials, and circumstances that come at us from all angles. It seems like when I turn around to deal with one area…the one that I turned from hits me harder.

Now, basically what that tells me is that I need help, and not just a crutch or someone to lean on. I need a Savior. Daily. Doesn’t mean I’m not eternally saved…it just means that as long as I’m living in this flesh tent, I need HIS STRENGTH not my own.

    Word.

  8. “Cui peccare licet peccat minus”

Like Ovid said so many hundreds of years ago, I am most likely to sin when I am not allowed to sin.

  9. Natasha says:

when I feel disconnected from the body of Chirst. When I am discouraged. When I am not thankful.

  10. Bob Holmes says:

You have got guts! Thank You.
For me, it’s right after God has moved mightily and I’m worn out.

  11. Stacy says:

When I look at others gifting s and talents and allow the enemy to get my eyes off of what gifting s and talents God has already blessed me with!

  12. Tracie says:

Hey Fred I was wondering what your personal answer to the question is? Sorry if I missed it and you have to repeat.

    • Tracie,
Yeah – I think I replied via Twitter or Facebook yesterday – but never put it here … I’m most likely to sin when I’m TIRED, EXHAUSTED, and SELF-ABSORBED. Sadly, that’s me the majority of the time. Working on changing that.

  13. Tracie says:

Yeah? Well, lately God has shown me the depth of a sin I have and why. I knew it was a pattern in my life but not the depth of it. It was painful to see, but more painful to realize the hurt it caused others. I think that pain will cause me to want to change more than the pain that causes me to sin. So what I meant to say is I am working on changing too Fred. Thanks for responding.
