Do You Show Your ….

copyright information?

According to CCLI:

As part of the terms and agreement you are responsible for including the copyright information on all songs reproduced under the Church Copyright License. This includes the song title, writer credit(s), copyright notice, and your church’s CCLI license number…for example:
“Hallelujah” words and music by John Doe
©2000 Good Music Co.
CCLI License # 0000
Currently, you can find your CCLI License Number on your License Certificate.
In a printed format, for example a bulletin insert, songsheet or transparency, just include the copyright information at the top or bottom of the page. In computer projections, there are several ways that lyrics are shown. Whether you show your lyrics a few lines at a time or you show the full song on the screen, it’s important that you include the copyright information at least one time for each song.

So, for those of you who project lyrics … where do you include the copyright information to the song?

First slide?
Last slide?
No slide?

Do tell.

  1. First and last slide…just like a music video.

  2. Joel Bowder says:

For worship songs I put title and author on the first slide (bigger on the top) and copyright/CCLI # on the last (smaller on the bottom).

For specials, I put everything on the last slide (smaller on the bottom).

  3. Mike says:

First slide, under the title for songwriter credits. Our projection software includes our CCLI number on each slide at the bottom.

I am going through the catalog and updating the copyright info – some of it is missing. I add it as I see it.

Our charts/lead sheets are printed right out of the same software, so the info is automatically added to it.

  4. I’ll have to check – I don’t make the slides :) I believe that the info is at the bottom of the last slide tho.

It’s also on the back or bottom of every sheet of music that we use – handwritten if necessary.

  5. Kyle says:

I actually sing out the entire CCLI license agreement as a special first song on every set, just to make sure everyone understands what legal authority we have to sing these songs of praise to Jesus.

  6. We run it on number one, before the lyrics are even presented.

    • Brent, how does that work on a song, let’s say, like “Again, I Say Rejoice” (Israel H) that immediately starts w/ the lyrics … no musical intro, etc?

      • Ya, that wouldn’t work, it would run over it. I guess we’ve never run into that before. We use ProPresenter and it gives you options of when and where, so we’ve always just run it on the first slide and never had a problem.

  7. Brian Otte says:

We use EasyWorship as our display software which automatically displays the info in small font at the bottom corner of each slide for a song.

  8. Jeremy says:

Another “Cheesy”-worship user here and it puts the info on every slide. Very little customization goes on when using EZ Worship…am trying desperately to go MAC and use PP.

  9. MandoRon says:

Lately our video guys have been making a video that runs after the exit song and scrolls all the copyright info like movie credits.

They may also be putting it on the last slide, but I haven’t noticed it.

  10. Randy says:

Bottom of last slide, generally as downloaded with the song from Song Select (ccli.com)

  11. Cosima says:

Hey there Fred! It’s been our practice to print the author/publisher at the bottom of each song and the caption, “permission to print: CCLI #…….” at the bottom of the first and last slide. Then we make all copyright information available to all who request info. Whether this satisfies the ccli requirements was our impression. So I guess I need to look into this further.

    blessings to ya’ll

Hey Ya’ll, where do you show your copyright info on projections? Your answer requested at http://bit.ly/7FEk4

  14. Hey Fred,

We put ours centered on the bottom of the last slide. We don’t have a reason, other than that is the way it was done when I got here…

  15. Shane says:

I believe we do both first and last. On the first it’s under the title. And on the last – at the bottom. =)

  16. Eric Frisch says:

We use openlp for our lyrics… it automatically places the copyright info in very tiny text at the bottom of each slide.

  17. Because of the graphical nature of our song backgrounds, we were struggling with what to do with copyright info so it wasn’t a distraction or eyesore. We’ve taken to listing all the songs with the required information on one slide that is part of our announcement loop that plays before and after the service. Song title are also actually graphical parts of the slides at times.

  18. Bryan Nelson says:

Last screen only on MediaShout. Why? Because then I know it’s the final screen and I better end the song…and so does the rest of the band. Oh yeah, the worshipers know it’s the end too. Hey, we never miss an ending.

  19. Mark Jaffrey says:

Hi Fred. Media Shout, 1st lyric slide. Bottom left hand corner.

By the way, I read this blog through RSS and for this post, your feed people decided to add a little video advert for the Church of Scientology.

Maybe you want to check it out :-)

By the way, I am not kidding!

  20. Jan Owen says:

Actually we TRY to put them on the last slide with the songwriter, copyright stuff but for some reason we type it in and then when we save it it’s not there. I even talked to a MediaShout rep and they were mystified………I need to do more research. It’s so frustrating!

  21. All slides, top right…v.small.

Our lyrics are presented at the bottom of the screen, with live video of the team on camera. We don’t use title pages, and as we might play with arrangements a bit, doing the first/last slide thing can look messy, so it was better just to put it everywhere.

  22. When I came to Oasis, they didn’t show it – which blew me away since Pastor Danny has had a number of songs published and used in different venues. Since then, we’ve begun displaying it on the first screen using Media Shout!

  23. Dan (@AF7O) says:

Last slide, bottom edge. I build our slides from the text export from CCLI’s SongSelect, so I just have to cut/paste/format into a text box.

May have to give that “sing out the agreement” thing a try one of these Sundays…probably the Sunday I wish to be fired…[grin]
