My First Experience Leading Worship … ONLINE!
Posted on August 11th, 2009 in Music, Technology, Worship Leadership by Fred McKinnonHey Everybody,
So I decided to do it … I launched out of my comfort zone and led my first “live” worship and prayer session on the internet from my home studio. Many of you were there, worshiping right along and praying with me. Without the security and covering of a band and the incredible arsenal of background vocalists that I’m so blessed to work with – I led out in spontaneous worship, musical interludes, and prayer. I felt like I was naked.
Using the technology offered through LiveStream.Com, I simply sat at the keyboard in front of my MacBook Pro’s “iSight” camera and launched out into the deep. And guess what – it was sweet. God was there, in our midst, as worshipers from all over the world (I know of at least one worshiper in Peru who joined us) sang, praised, prayed, and worshiped.
So, let’s do some LIVE, ONLINE WORSHIP again!
For the early-birds:
This Friday, August 14th, at 8:30 AM, EST.
And again, this Sunday Evening:
This Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 9:00 PM, EST.
Where? Right Here on FredMcKinnon.Com – just click the “LIVE” button in the nav bar.

Yo, Fred. I was only able to tune in for a short while but what I did see was great! I am def. going to jump on this bandwagon and do some live worship sessions of my own too, the more the merrier I think!
Anyway, thanks for letting us see your ‘nakedness’ … haha! It’s good to occasionally experience the ‘raw’ in worship!
Brandon, thanks – yes, indeed, man let us know when you do – post it in the forums over at TheWorshipCommunity.Com as well. There can’t be a shortage of worship leaders out there, providing spaces for people to connect with God.
(from my friend Scott, on FaceBook) …
I was there and it was great! I went into my practice room and hooked my laptop up to the speakers, grabbed my guitar and played and sang along. It was incredible. It was freeing to be able to not feel as though I had to play all the time. I could worship on my guitar some, sing some, pray some, and do both. Not having a congregation in front of me… Read More to lead, I did not have to worry about things flowing smoothly as far as what I was conveying for others to be able to follow. It was really a lot like worshiping alone but yet still having someone lead me in spontaneity. In that respect, it was different than any worship time I have experienced. I say that in a good way. I can’t wait to join in again.
Hi Fred,
I joined, super early, then got cut off like 4 times, but I kept trying and trying and finally got on. And then I sat there saying please, please computer don’t kick me off. It was an amazing experience, one definitely worth staying up for. Thank you for going outside your comfort zone because it was encouragement for me.
I was sweetly broken with some of the prayers you prayed. When you were just playing I let my computer go to my screen saver so I could go lay on my bed with the lights off and have some intimate moments with God. AND I did.
Awesome stuff and I hope to tune in for the next Sunday night one.
God Bless,
Tracie
I was right there with you in the presence.
Peaceful and prayerful.
Thanks,
Parker
Hey Fred,
I was able to join briefly just as you were leading us in “Here I am to Worship”. My keyboard was beside me and I was briefly part of the “virtual band”!
It’s going to be quite a Worship Team in Heaven!
Be Blessed,
