Unplugging For A While
Written by Fred McKinnon on September 30, 2009 – 7:48 AM -Hey Gang,
For the next few days I’m going to unplug and simplify a few things as I take some time to focus and pray. I’ll turn it all off in a few hours, before noon today EST. This is great timing because we’re also having a “spiritual staff retreat” on Thursday and Friday at SSCC.
1. I won’t be blogging
2. I won’t be twittering
3. I won’t be updating my Facebook Status.
(I heard that loud gasp)
I’m still working … so yes, I’m still checking email, and I’ll likely have to interact with my Facebook Inbox but that’s the extent of it. If I show up IM, it’s only because I have to login to chat with someone about work.
I plan to be back Sunday to post “Sunday Setlists”.
So … go enjoy life and have fun! See you back here later.
For the Kingdom,
Fred

Worship Round Table – Discuss “Manly Worship”
Written by Fred McKinnon on September 29, 2009 – 9:00 AM -
Hey Everyone,
Sorry for the last-minute notice … but you are invited to a live “Round Table” discussion tonight, sponsored by the incredible “AllAboutWorship” podcast folks.
Tonight’s topic? “Manly Worship” – What is “Manly Worship”? Is there a need for worship songwriters to focus more attention on music that ministers more to men? Is there a trend in worship music within churches that connects more with the heart of women vs men? Or is this issue moot and the hearts of men need to be challenged in this area?
Here’s the best part. You can call in live and be part of the discussion!
Time: 10:00 PM EST (9:00 CST)
Date: Today, Tuesday 9/29
How to tune in? Go to:

Friday Already?
Written by Fred McKinnon on September 25, 2009 – 8:07 AM -Hey Gang,
Well, I’ve been sick all week. About this time last week, I’d just finished a 3-1/2 hour rehearsal, a long day preparing, and was headed into a long weekend with little rest.
God made our bodies and minds so that we usually can discern when our immune system is suffering. I was tired … no, exhausted. But I kept pushing. I had rehearsals, soccer games, work, and two Sunday services plus a big “night of worship” to do. There was no time to slow down.
Compounding that, it was “Season Premier” week for many of my favorite TV shows … so of course, I stayed up late Thursday night, again Friday night, and stayed up Saturday night watching the Georgia game.
Sunday came and went – an incredible day of worship in our morning services and at our “Night of Worship”.
All the while, I’m at that place where my body is sending all the warning signs. By Monday afternoon I’d made the decision to voluntarily skip the “regimen” training the next morning (Tuesday) – I knew there was nothing in the tank. I *HATE* missing Regimen because I’ve already paid for it. I was feeling chilled and my throat was already hurting. I took a gulp of NyQuil and hit the sack.
Tuesday: woke up, could barely lift my head. Throat hurt so bad I couldn’t swallow. Fever over 101.
Called in a Z-Pack antibiotic and slept all day.
Now it’s Friday. I got a pretty good night’s sleep last night after a very quick, yet enjoyable rehearsal at SSCC. I can’t believe the entire week flew by and it’s all a big blur to me.
So there you have it. Not an exciting blog post, but it’s a glimpse of why this blog didn’t exist much this week, and where I’ve been.
Here’s to a better “Next Week”!

Fair Tax in the Bible?
Written by Fred McKinnon on September 23, 2009 – 7:15 AM -14 Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord’s offering.15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the Lord’s offering to make atonement for your lives.
(Exodus 30:14-15, ESV, YouVersion.Com)
I couldn’t help but think about the big “fair tax” debate these days when I read this.
What if our “taxes” we paid to our government was like an “offering” to our country …. and this principle applied. A fair, fixed, flat-rate, set amount … the rich aren’t required to give more, the poor aren’t asked to give less … everybody pays the same amount …
I certainly don’t want a nasty debate on my blog, but I am definitely curious … why was it that God used that standard during the census and the atonement offering?
