Monday Muse: Perverse Speech?

Picture 2

Challenged by my own “rebuke” of sorts on last week’s popular blog post, “Who Are We Kidding“, I decided I’d better get myself in the Word this morning.  YouVersion.Com and my “Daily Reader” program on my Treo phone took me to Proverbs 8:12-13.

So, if “wisdom” hates “perverted speech” (referred to as “perverse speech in many translations) …

What exactly is “perverse/perverted speech”?

I think of the movies and TV shows we, as Christians, watch with little or no conviction any longer … filled with what I’d consider to be “perverse” speech.  Drink it in.  Filthy water.

What do you think “perverse speech” is referring to?

That’s today’s Monday Muse.  Tweet it, invite your friends to answer, and let the comments begin.

Thank God I’m A Country Boy

Written by Fred McKinnon on September 12, 2009 – 11:25 AM -

Yes, I live on a luxury, beautiful island called St. Simons Island. But here’s my roots – pecan trees, deer stands, tractors, bass, catfish, and deer. And YES, I can indeed “skin a buck and run a trot line”, as the song says.

I’m enjoying a couple of days back in Telfair County, GA – home of the world record largemouth bass, the state record Boone and Crocket deer, and my home … Preparing our hunting club for this year’s deer season. This trip I’m honored to have my second-born son Will with me.

And this entire post is being sent via me cell phone, courtesy of www. Posterous.com

lemme know if it worked! I’m attaching a pic too.

Who Are We Kidding?

Written by Fred McKinnon on September 10, 2009 – 7:22 AM -

bible-1Last night Joy and I had a rare evening where all the kids were in bed before 8:30.  Both of us had plenty of work to do – but we decided to just have some time for the two of us.  We’d missed our morning prayer time together so we opted to watch a couple of Joyce Meyer episodes that Joy had saved on the DVR.

I don’t typically watch many “christian programs” on TV – and though I’ve always enjoyed Joyce Meyer’s teachings when I’ve heard them, I wouldn’t call myself a regular viewer.  She had author Gary Smalley on as her guest.

To say that I was challenged and pushed in my spirit would be an understatement.  Here is a 65+ year old man – a guy whose been ministering longer than I’ve been alive … and he’s sharing with the world how he’s battled lustful Read more »

Review: Fearless by Max Lucado

Written by Fred McKinnon on September 8, 2009 – 4:00 AM -

_140_245_Book.72.coverNew York Times Best-Selling Author, Max Lucado, has just released another book through Thomas Nelson.  I was honored to receive an advance copy of this book and was intrigued immediately by the title and subtitle:

“Fearless” – Can You Imagine Your Life Without Fear?

(available in hardcover, kindle, and audio CD at Amazon.Com)

One of the commands we find throughout Scripture over and over is “fear not” or “take courage”.  I’ve personally experienced fear, seen it in loved ones, and witnessed it hold us hostage.  I’ve also enjoyed the victory of overcoming fear in many areas of my own life and have seen this reward in my family.

The timing of Lucado’s book couldn’t be any better.  We are living in a world where each day’s news brings us more reasons to be anxious and fearful.  Government takeover of business.  Wars and rumors of wars.  Swine flu, Asian flu, and various threats of disease.  Terrorist warnings.  Recession and skyrocketing unemployment.

The most beautiful part of this book is the tool that Max Lucado uses Read more »
