For 2010, I will …

Posted on January 1st, 2010 in Life and Family by Fred McKinnon

new years babyHAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

It’s hard to believe we’re already in 2010.  Time flies, doesn’t it?

I realize that most “resolutions” are forgotten every year, but I wanted to write down a few things and give you a chance to do the same.

For 2010, I will …

* be intentional about making God’s Word a bigger priority in my life.  If we only have time to post our morning tweet and blog or read God’s Word, we should read God’s Word.  Can I get an AMEN?

* be intentional about spending more quality time with my kids, and making memories with my wife and family.

* continue on my quest for better health.  From May 2009 I lost a couple of inches, about 25 pounds, and added some muscle.  I slacked off big-time in December and gained 8 pounds.  My goal for 2010 is to get below 200 pounds.  I was at 238 in May of 2009, and I’m around 220 today. My friend Russ Hutto and his brother just launched a cool new site to help people with their fitness goals – checkout WorkOutBrothers.Com.

* lead people into deeper, authentic encounters with God through expressive worship and ministry.  I’m ready to take off the gloves and operate in some of the spontaneous and prophetic gifting that I know God has given me. Not all of the venues where I lead worship are appropriate for this, but I have plans to create spaces for this.

* delegate more and more responsibility of my e-biz to other people, giving them ownership and vision to grow the business.

* Write and record songs again!

I’ve got some great vision for 2010 that could influence the Kingdom, bless songwriters, and empower the Church.  I can’t do it on my own, and thank God for a team of people He’s assembling to see this come to pass.

OK, it’s your turn.  Please share a view of your dreams, resolutions, and goals for 2010.  Just scroll down and leave a comment.  C’mon now, kick off the New Year right, and let your voice be heard!

To live by faith and not by sight.

To be more vulnerable to trust, and allow myself to be loved and taken care of.

Take time to read, not just the bible, but the other 10 plus books I am in the middle of reading.

    That’s just a few…

Tracie, those are awesome goals. I made a goal in 2009 to read more books, I’m not much of a book reader … and I probably read more books in 2009 than my entire life combined! It was rewarding.

Thanks for the shout out, Fred! We’re seeing a lot of momentum with this, especially through using facebook.

We’re excited to get up and running.

How about a guest post from you!! We’re going to be inviting a lot of people to guest post about THEIR fitness/health choices/goals this year. From all perspectives!!

A lot of my own personal goals are pretty similar to yours. Of course, there are a few differences!

i think the biggest one music/worship related is to write more and share more. And to help others do the same!

    • http://www.fredmckinnon.com Fred McKinnon

Russ, sounds good, by “guest post”, do you mean a shoutout here, or on the actual site? I think I just nailed my goal, and did it … it’s pretty simple, and will get simpler … but I just want something I know I can do to get started!

As for the music/worship writing and sharing, I’ve got just the venue for that, haha!

I mean maybe like a “workout confessional” or a “man, I’ve been doing this exercise thing and it sure is rewarding” kind of a post…or a “DANG, working out is tough, but I love it anyways!” kind of a post…

Just something to go on workoutbrothers.com from YOUR perspective. We’ve got a few other folks lined up as well and want to include several of our friends as regular guest posters!

Sounds good … I’d love to!

    Hey Fred,

I’ve set goals in these areas:

Spiritual – more time with God and His Word (youVersion is a great tool to help in this)

Relational – being the very best husband, father and grandfather that I can be

    Physical – ’nuff said!

Ministry – a renewed focus on serving God and the people that he has entrusted to my care.

    Happy New Year!

      Randy …
      Happy New Year … on
      Physical – ’nuff said!

I don’t think so, we’re not letting you off that easy! Get specific bro! (grin)!

      • Randy

        Busted … ok, how’s this?

        - minimum of 30 minutes physical activity daily
        - and likely my biggest challenge … healthier eating!

        …Randy

Wow! Great posts! I think you all have hit the nail on the head for me. The only “resolution” I could add to the list is to “follow through” on my creative adventures! :)

Mine would mirror yours with the exception of the e business. I praise God for musical Christian friends like you who build His kingdom. Yes to be more intentional this year!

    Fred,

    My goals for 2010 are:

    Double my devotion time.

Take a real vacation with the family this year.

Help my Junior High boys class increase their missions giving this year 10X.

    Completely read the Bible.

    Read 40 books.

    Lose 10 lbs.

    Happy New Year!
    Bay

      Bay,
Have you seen the “read the bible” plans at YouVersion.Com?

Also, 10 pounds? Dude, unless you’ve changed a lot, 10 pounds off your weight would put you in negative territory!

I hadn’t seen youversion.com, but it looks interesting. I will definitely check it out.

As for the 10 pounds, the answer is I have changed a lot. When I graduated, I weighed 128. My current target is 175.

My resolution: To be FULLY ENGAGED in the opportunities I am already involved in – writing about them, mentoring through them and serving during.

I have a tendency to create more and more…I get bored easily. I really feel like God is showing me I need to look for new opportunities inside the old ones I’m currently in. Make sense?
