If You Could Ask God for ANYTHING …

Posted on June 16th, 2010 in Faith by Fred McKinnon

Today in our Staff Meeting, our new Family Pastor, Mark Fritchman, asked this question:

“If you could ask God for ANYTHING, and you knew that He would answer, what would it be” …

So, what’s your answer?

That my 6 year old son, who is a cancer survivor would never have a fear of his cancer returning and that my wife with Multiple Sclerosis would be healed.

Kind of selfish, I know… but hey, it’s honest.

      Brian,
Actually, I’d say those requests were selfLESS … and I can agree with those prayers all day!

I want to say “for me to be the man of God that He would have me be with no hinderances”, but He would probably have to kill me, huh?

So . . . .I’d ask for the body of Christ to act like it. But then I guess the trumpet would blow, huh?

Tough question. Perhaps I would just say “Lord, would you come now?”

      Robert,
Great points all the way around … I’m not saying “please come now”, because if the Lord did, I think I’d have too many tears and regrets!

For my latter years to be much more productive for the kingdom than my former days.

For sure, I can hookup with that!

Great question. It’s easy to want to come up with a “Sunday School” answer. But to be honest, right now I would ask for God to throw open the eyes of the congregation I serve so that they would see how great He and His bride can be and stop being selfish, individualistic, and works-driven. And to help me be patient and loving in the process when I just don’t understand the culture and dynamics. (and to not be those things, either.) And to bring healing to staff relationships and church dynamics. Okay, I’ll stop now…

Chris, man, oh man, do I love that response! Yes, indeed!

I popped in here to see the responses to this question.

And then realised what a hard and far-reaching question it is.

And then wondered why I don’t ask God for bigger stuff. Considering the fact that He.is.God.

So I thought that, today, I’d ask for peace in the Middle East.

And for Him to heal my friend of his epilepsy.

And to grow my small group spiritually.

      Louise,
That’s an awesome response, and I agree – God is HUGE, why ask for the little things only, right?
