So there’s this problem I have. It’s a recurring struggle that visits every Summer. My infatuation with the Chick-Fil-A Peach Shake. I don’t even want to know the calorie count. All I know … it’s a taste of heaven on earth.

Like his youngest son (me), my Dad is a man who appreciates something like a good shake. So I’ve been telling him for quite a while that he had to experience this. In our hometown of McRae, GA there is no Chick-Fil-A anywhere around.

Mom and Dad are on vacation in FL this week, so I kicked off this “texting” exchange with my Dad. Thought you’d enjoy it, too:

Me: Have u found a chickfila yet to get a peach shake?

Dad: Oh yes! It was awesome! Good thing a Chic Fila isn’t close to McRae.

Me: I’m in the drive thru now.

Dad: Hate to remind you, but remember Romans 12:1.

Me: Nothing renews me better!

Dad: That’s verse 2. Verse 1 exhorts us to submit our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy & acceptable …

Me: That’s not in my Bible.

Dad: Think I’ll tear that page out of mine. Too late, though. I’ve already messed up on that one this week.

Me: Well, as Adam said, “its that woman you gave me” – Joy gave me a Chick-Fil-A gift card in a shake cup for Father’s Day.

Dad: I like that reasoning.

Spicy Chicken sandwich is awesome, but I just can’t deal with the Peach Shake, even though I was curious. Those big chunks of peach coming up the straw…it was a little too much.

Oh Brian, you’ve gotta go there … to those big, lucious, scrumptious, tasty chunks of peach getting stuck in the straw … that’s the sign of a GREAT shake! Of course, even when Peach is out of season, I’m a sucker for the strawberry shake, which has it’s own chunks!

Yeah, I promise you … down a large Peach Shake, and work won’t be in the picture for a few hours … you may still GO to work … but you won’t get anything done … you’ll be in shock, and this glorious cloud of “sorriness” and “laziness” just rolls in and sets up on top of you for a few hours … awesome!

Ok, I’m sold. Today at lunch I will be partaking of a spicy chicken sandwich with pepperjack and extra pickle, waffle fries, and a peach shake.

But will I be able to blame Sandy for the extra seven pounds that’s gonna show up around my mid-section? This is important to know. I need to get all my ducks in a row if I’m gonna do this. . . . .

Here’s how I found you, Fred…I was in bed from a 4th of July food coma, promising myself today would be the beginning of diet and exercise. And then it happened. I remembered Chick-Fil-a’s peach shake! I had missed out on having one last summer, because I kept thinking I would reward myself with one, after I got myself in shape. Well, when I went to my local Chickfila, (sorry to rub it in;) they had already stopped serving it for the summer! I then proceeded to call all the Chickfila’s around, to see if anyone had enough left over for one small shake, when they informed me that it wouldn’t matter if they did- word to stop serving them came down from corporate. I almost cried. So I googled up the question, “has Chickfila started serving the peach milkshake this summer, 2011?”, and immediately several responses came up:) And then I saw glaring at me-yours. “the problem with Chickfila’s peach milkshake…”? What the what!? I proceeded to ignore all others, and see what idiocy had perverted the cyber-waves. And then, there you were. Loving Chickfila peach shakes-and quoting scripture?!? Ahh…the world isn’t quite as messed up as I feared. I WILL go have my peach milkshake from Chickfila today…I’ll just do it the responsible way. I’ll walk there;)
