Turning The Tide – Promo Video

Posted on May 26th, 2011 in Faith, Life and Family, Reviews by Fred McKinnon

I recently had the honor of working with the production team from Dr. Charles Stanley’s “In Touch” Ministries in their creation of a new promo/commercial.  The commercial is for Dr. Stanley’s upcoming book, “Turning the Tide”.  As a New York Times Best-Selling Author, this book will be sure to be selling like crazy.

My cousin and great friend – a fellow “creative”, John McKinnon, was the Director and asked me to help them secure a beach location here and some kids to be the “extras”.

I watched them race the sunlight and the quickly approaching tides on Jekyll Island’s driftwood beach for 2 days of filming.  The commercial is now produced, and though I’m biased towards my cousin’s work, I think it’s incredible.

See for yourself – and pickup the book, which releases in July.

Wow. I had a three-paragraph comment typed up and my Windows machine decided I shouldn’t have functionality anymore. So here’s the abbreviated version (which turned out to be not so abbreviated):

Excellent moody, understated music. It retains a tense tone without being overly alarming or melancholy. Other good adjectives apply. It fits the subject well. Nice work!

Proverbs 11:11 – ”The good influence of Godly citizens causes a city to prosper, but the moral decay of the wicked drives it downhill.” At some point I discovered that for most of my life as a believer, the second half of that statement was the most important to me. It’s the part that drives Christians to feel like we have to defend what are our rights or our “territory” (by divine right, dang it).

What I further found out, believe it or not, is that the first half of the statement is far more critical than the last. Christians seem to neglect the former in favor of the latter; we try to root out the bad stuff so we can get on with the good stuff. That’s like telling someone they need to get rid of all their bad habits, and THEN they can come to Christ.

Looking forward to the book! I hope it will fuel the fire that’s pushing the Church to BE the Church.

      DEAN,
thanks … after reading your comment, and Barry’s … I realize that it must be unclear regarding my involvement … I didn’t score the music (wish I did!) … all I did was be the middle-man in getting the kids and location.

Your input regarding the Scripture is SO VERY right!

Okay, then, the music STINKS! Do you hear me?!

Actually, if I’d read what you said rather than what I assumed you were saying (“…asked me to help them secure a beach location here and some kids to be the ‘extras’), I’d have probably understood.

The music is still perfect.  :-)
