The Wife Is Gone and I’m Mr. Mom: Part 1
Posted on June 23rd, 2011 in Life and Family by Fred McKinnonTime for a family meeting. It goes something like this.
Me: OK, Kiddos. As you know, Mom left early this AM. She’s going on a fun trip where she can hang out with one of her girlfriends, attend a fun conference, hang out with her family, and have zero responsibility for anyone except herself. She deserves it.
Rebekah: Mommie has a girlfriend? But she’s married.
Me: No, a friend, who is a girl, Rebekah – you know, like Kiley or Sierra … a good friend. You don’t know her, her name is Sandy.
Jon Michael: Oh, I know Sandy. (yeah, right).
Me: So, let’s work together to get along, be respectful to one another, and have fun. I have to work today, so I need you to help me. When I say it’s time to play outside, I want you to play outside and not talk back. There is plenty of stuff to do – ride bikes, scooters, shoot baskets, play games.
Jon Michael: play with Sadie (our dog)
Will: yes SIR.
Me: I’m upstairs in my office working on church stuff. Ya’ll be lazy for a bit longer, watch some TV, and we’ll take an outside break around 11:00 before lunch.
Andrew: Daddy … can I play your iPad?

And so begins my long 4-weekend. Joy is headed off to meet one of her best friends, attend the evening sessions of the Forward Conference in North Georgia, and just have a laid back fun time w/ her friend and family. She gets Toby Mac & Christine Cain tonight. I’ll journal the Mr. Mom experience right here, and will tweet along w/ the hashtag #MrMom.
